So what you're saying is there are 6 really good teams separated by 1 game? Well that is certainly shocking.

No SEC championship game.
No BCS appearance.
Very possible chicken bowl.

Is GREAT to you?

Yes and No

First off when you think of 10 win seasons in the '90's it was in a 11 game regular season schedule.

Then again looking back at past seasons you include the bowl game.

So in 1996 LSU went 10-2. This included the bowl game.

I guess what I am trying to say is: a 10 win season in the '90s equals a 11 win season after the bowl game now a days.

I guess it depends on who you beat and who you lost too. We beat 9 and 10 and lost to 2 and 4 and killed washington who beat stanford. UF and UA were one score games as well. I would say this was a solid season. Also UGA is ranked ahead of us but I am not sure they are "better" than us. In a playoff, no one would want to play us this year....

Everyone wants to jump on Miles' arse for the offense this season but if Christ on a cracker Chavis' defense makes ONE SINGLE frickING PLAY in the last 1:40 against Bama we're talking about the SECCG rematch.

Do you really think they would let 3/4 of the teams in the playoffs be from the SEC? There is no way they would allow that.

You have to look at it both ways because we easily could have lost to South Carolina, A&M, Auburn, and Ole Miss.

Who said anything about great?

There will continue to be 5 or 6 10 win teams when many of the top SEC teams don't play each other.

It seems as if we are being hypnotized into being simply "good" but not "great".

Reality check: the 10 win barometer isn't impressive in a single-season vacuum. Look at the overall body of work with that benchmark. Double digit wins is a barometer of long term success, not necessarily short term success (unless you are a Mississippi school).

nice try. i don't think we are being hypnotized or even happy or even complacent. the way the SEC is 6 teams are damn good football teams and it is a meat grinder. these 6 teams LOST only 9 games and THEY LOST THEM TO EACH OTHER. each year, it's basically a break here, a break there, a fumble here or there or an injuriy here or there that separate these teams. this year, LSU lost some key players at key positions and then suffered the worst string of injuries i have ever seen (to starters). all of this while breaking in a new qb and average wr's. all of the affected players have stepped up and improved their game so it bodes well for next year.

winning 10 games in the SEC is hard to do and LSU came damn close to winning 11 or 12.

Anybody figure out the OP's point yet?

Lulled to complacency by 10 win seasons? LOL

How 'bout this: 10-2 in SEC>>>>>10-2 any other conference.
Every top ten team is gonna be 4-0 out of conference. So yes, 6-2 in this conference is great.

Prefer 7-1 or 8-0? Yes.
Complacent with 6-2? No. I doubt anyone associated with the program is happy or complacent with 6-2 SEC record.

ETA: LSU GrandDad beat me to it.

you're just trying to pick a fight man. same old tired line. just because there are fans that aren't on the mississippi river bridge ready to jump off you (and others) accuse us of being complacent. you are wrong. it's simply that you are ignoring reality and want to can coaches that don't win as often as saban. and there just aren't any of those man. NONE.

We didn't win 10 games in the SEC. We won 6.

When you factor in in the schedule differences it makes sense. Of the top 6, UGA had the easiest SEC schedule, followed by Bama, then Florida. There are your 1-loss teams. SOS is huge when this many good teams are in the same conference. This LSU team had a very good season IMO. Just came up a little short against two very good teams and got hurt in the end by the conference schedule.

Clarification: we won 6 games in the SEC with FIVE of those wins being within a score: TaM, Ole Miss, Arky, USCe, Auburn.

Let that sink in.

the arky and auburn games being one score games are inexcusable if you look at what other teams did to those same squads

I don't know about easily. LSU lead the entire 4th quarter against Auburn. A&M scored with less than 2 minutes to play or its a 12 point win. SC scored with about 3 to play or its a 9 point win. About the only game that could have easily been a loss was Ole Miss.
