Graduated law school in May 2011, first day of work was October 31st, 2011

I had gotten a bit lazy applying for a while there, since I knew kids from my school with top of the class grades were having trouble. But I got back on it with a little prodding and have a pretty relaxed (most of the time) gig working from home with decent pay that I just happened into. Feel pretty lucky.

Pretty similar story here. I was slated to graduate in May 2010 with a Master's of Science in Engineering from LSU. I started applying around October or November of 2009. I probably applied to around 50 positions. Ended up with two interviews and two offers. One was with the State of Louisiana and one with the company I'm working for now. I really, really lucked out with my current position. Timing was just right. I accepted the position at the end of February 2010 and started work May 2010, immediately after I was finished with my thesis defense and all graduate school requirements, with no lull in employment.

I applied to about 20-30 places. Got 4 interviews, 3 job offers.

ETA: I was applying for some jobs that I wasn't qualified for and didn't realize it at the time though.

I'm graduating with my Ph.D. in 6 months or so (not a worthless Ph.D., mind you - Chemistry), and its shaping up to be a long process.

PhD in Chemistry here. Went the industry route, started working in December, defended in May. Still with the same company....6 years now.

C&E News yearly jobs report came out recently and painted a pretty bleak hiring picture for PhDs at all levels. What's been your experience?
