This is the top 8. This is who should be playing in a tournament, imo.

1. Notre Dame
2. Alabama
3. Georgia
4. Florida
5. Oregon
6. Kansas State
7. LSU
8. Stanford

I think he's going on the assumption that any 8 team playoff would include a spot for the highest ranked non power conference team

The would do some terrible things to see that 8 team playoff unfold.

Here's how you seed them: (assuming Alabama, Stanford, Florida State and Kansas State win Saturday)

1. Notre Dame
2. Alabama
3. Stanford
4. Kansas State
5. Florida State

Now you pick the 3 at large teams:

6. Florida
7. LSU
8. Oregon

Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M, and South Carolina left out.

Expand it to 16 and you get this:

1. Notre Dame
2. Alabama
3. Stanford
4. Kansas State
5. Florida State
6. Florida
7. LSU
8. Georgia
9. Texas A&M
10. Oregon
11. Oklahoma
12. South Carolina
13. Nebraska
14. Kent State
15. Nebraska
16. Texas

1st Round

1-Notre Dame over 16-Texas
2-Alabama over 15-Nebraska
3-Stanford over 14-Kent State
13-Clemson over 4-Kansas State
12-South Carolina over 5-Florida State
6-Florida over 11-Oklahoma
7-LSU over 10-Oregon
9-Texas A&M over 8-Georgia

2nd Round

9-Texas A&M over 1-Notre Dame
2-Alabama over 7-LSU
6-Florida over 3-Stanford
12-South Carolina over 13-Clemson

Semifinal

9-Texas A&M over 12-South Carolina
2-Alabama over 6-Florida

Final

9-Texas A&M over 2-Alabama

Swap LSU and Stanford to avoid 1st round rematches. But otherwise... yeah. Pretty much this.
