i'm sure you have proof he was lied to. no? you are just throwing out unsubstatiated allegations to justify your opinion he was misused. you may find it hard to fathom but i saw him play for 4 years and was a huge fan of him. i'm very sorry he didn't meet the expectations of many but it certainly wasn't the coaches fault. not high school star translates to a star in college and some high school middle of the row players become college stars. a fact. your opinion is one thing but to aver that the coaching staff lied to him is bull shite.

Shep isn't playing QB for any Div-I team. He has a noodle for an arm. Plain and simple.

He wasn't lied to, he got a shot at QB.

The bad thing is that he should be a third down back like Reggie Bush was with LenDale White or CJ Spiller at Clemson. Miles doesn't really use those backs. He would have been something to watch at RB at a place like Baylor or Clemson or UNC.

IMHO

It has been well established, if you follow recruiting, that one of the reasons Shep chose LSU is because Miles promised him a shot at QB. He did not get that shot. Now, some people will claim that he did. They will say that he got a few chances in practice and was deemed not able to play QB.

I disagree. My position is that Shep deserved more than a few looks in practice. He also deserved to throw at least one pass during his playing career here. I believe he did not get a real, fair chance of playing QB at LSU. And I do not believe Miles ever intended to give him that real chance. If he meant what he told Shep, he would have done it. He gave JJ four years and waiting to become a decent QB.

Moreover, Miles' judgment that Shep could not play QB for LSU carries absolutely no weight. Miles' judgment on QBs is about as worthy as Sonny Dykes' judgment on defense.

Please post some film of his noodle arm.

Denard Robinson, JW Walsh, Dennis Dixon, Pat White, and many others all have weak arms. They just played in the right system. Shep could have done the same.

Never understood why, if we have to have that damned speed option in our gameplan, did we not try Shep running it????

FWIW, JJ had a cannon. An inaccurate, horribly wielded cannon that took a long time to load...but a cannon nonetheless.

Didn't Shep asked to be moved the week of the UF game in 09? I mean from QB to WR

Found this article from 2008 talking about Shep. Some questions about whether he could pass at the D-1 level, but overall good reviews about his passing ability towards the end.

quote:

"I am constantly fighting to prove I am a quarterback, not an athlete playing quarterback. I love the responsibility that comes with the position. I am a leader and I want the ball in my hands every play. I feel I can do what ever it takes to win the game."

quote:

Has a smooth, fluid release and a quick, compact delivery on his throws. Flashes the ability to place the ball anywhere on the field. Shows some zip on underneath throws and can fit balls into tight spots. Has great touch and timing on the deep ball. Throws on the run very well and has the arm strength to throw off balance and across his body. He's explosive in all areas: change-of-direction skills, elusiveness, speed and arm.

quote:

Shepard is much further along as a passer than Terrelle Pryor was at this stage, and Shepard is more explosive.

Yes. It was then, after watching JJ play miserably at the position for the entire game, that he realized he was never going to play QB at LSU.

Apparently Miles pretended to be disappointed and tried to talk him out of it.

Clearly JJ was better and Shep could not play QB...

...according to Miles and some others like LSUGrandad.

Bottom line is Shep's arm was good enough. Coupled with his speed and instincts, he could have been lethal in the right offense. Like I said, Michigan or Oregon.

Everything you said here was stupid.

Dude, that is so not funny!

Hobley would have won the Heisman at LSU if he would have academically qualified.

Might have had a little to do with it but Sheps girlfriend was already a student at LSU and he was coming here from the day LSU offered. That is why he committed so early and never wavered.

He worked out there in the spring and saw that he had no shot of passing up Jefferson and Lee and wanted playing time so he switched positions immediately.

That's dumb. Jai Eugene, Early Doucet and Ruben Randal played QB in high school too. Do they deserve to throw a pass?

No one is saying JJ was a good QB. Least of all me. But if you ever watched RS's high school films or the all star games, you would see he was throwing 30 yarders like 'hail marys'. He was an athlete pure and simple.

This is so damn stupid! Who should have the final say so? You?

Also, check out this LINK. He did play some wild cat his freshman year before committing to other positions.

I agree that WR is not his position and never should have been. He should have been a running back. His rushing numbers at LSU are really good. (58 carries for 570 yards with 5 TDs. 9.8 yards per carry.) He is not a QB and if he would have stayed at QB he would have wasted even more time at LSU.

I really don't want to put a dog in this fight, but I would guess it was due to durability and ball protection issues.

LSU is not an offense that puts athletes in space. The less likely you are to go between the tackles, the less likely you are to see the field.

It would be ideal to have a smash mouth option, along with a spread the field option, but few can coordinate this. The high scoring spread teams always fail in the must have short yardage situations when the championship is on the line.

Brandon Jacobs - AU

I would put that in the good decisions category. Jacobs got to stay at RB, which is what he wanted all along.

Errbody else was moving him to LB or DE.
