on 4th down? No. You have to extend the game...

One yard is all you need?

They'd still be losing with the TD...

statistically speaking, a FG is much easier (and quicker) to get than a TD.

Absolutely terrible. Ball inside the 10 yard line, down by 9. Not only do you run >2:30 off the clock and burn one of your two timeouts, but you go for it on 4th down instead of kicking the FG to pull within 1 score.

Just terrible!

That was shite, shite playcalling although the decision to go for it isn't necessarily bad. Assume they score, then they get the ball back at their 20, if they just got 3, they now need to go 80 yards, if they got 7, they only need go about 50. Under 3 minutes with 1 timeout this extra 30 yards is massive. Some (well coached) teams frequently convert big 4th downs.

The problem was that they ran the ball on 2nd and 3rd down inside 3 minutes down by two scores. If you're gonna run your killer short run play, you can pass twice and run it in 4th. Throw the ball ffs, it stops the clock. Run a screen and let your QB throw it away if he needs to, whatever, that was just so, so shite.

We're not talking about kicking the FG on first down, though. We're talking about kicking it on 4th down. You have to take the FG there! It's not even a choice.

Clock management wasn't really the issue IMO. ND owned both lines of scrimmage. They are stout up front.

Really? They ran nearly 3 minutes off the clock, burned a timeout, and turned the ball over on downs. Worst case scenario, they should've kicked a FG with ~3 minutes left and two timeouts.

Doesn't matter how much time you have if you can't score. They got owned on the lines. Hell, they were down 2 scores. No fricking way they were scoring twice.

It would've been a chip-shot FG. That's one score. And, if the clock had been managed well, there would've been >3 minutes on the clock with two timeouts. Could they have gotten the ball back and scored a game-winning TD? Maybe, maybe not. We'll never know, because Kiffin made basically every possible wrong decision in that final 5 minutes. . .

I don't understand how any coach could let that happen. No sense of urgency and trying to qb sneak with a freshman qb twice then letting the clock run down. I can't believe how pathetic that was.
