How much does what happens to LSU football genuinely affect your happiness?

Do you think you perhaps put a little too much stock into LSU football? Do the successes and failures of the college football team that is known as LSU make or break you?

I ask this because of the clear mood change it has on people as I have seen over the years when LSU wins or loses, or is disappointed, etc. When I worked retail sales it was glaringly obvious over the course of the next week when LSU lost a game. People were negative, irritable, easily set off, and just generally not very fun to be around. It always seemed to come down to LSU. The whole city it would seem hung onto whatever happened to LSU. It's all people would talk about. If they won, it was super, but boy if LSU lost, the world was coming to an end at any minute.

I agree it affects my mood more than it should, especially after 1/9, which was also my birthday. I got pissed after Florida game this year and have made a conscious effort to not be too high or low, it's kind of a personal weakness.

When I was younger, losses bothered me and put me in a sour mood.

As I've gotten older, had kids, and progressive levels of responsibility at home and professionally I really don't care

Sure a win makes me happy but a loss isn't going to make me cry or even make me upset.

It's just a game.

When I lived in Baton Rouge, it affected me greatly. Bad week, etc...

Now, being in NYC...it affects me the day of only. It doesn't mean the losses don't hurt or linger as much, but it's easier to move on to other things. In a way, it kind of sucks not being in an LSU only town. Everytime we lose, i'll hear smack talk from all the other college football fans in the city, but at the end of the day, win or lose, I know my college football experience was better and will always be better than everyone elses (Scott Van Pelt knows).

Being an LSU fan is still a big point of identity, but it doesn't define who I am ultimately.

It really affects my mood after a loss. More the loss to Bama than to Florida

The Alabama game affected me. I was pretty upset but wa happy with the way they played. By midnight, I was fine again.

The Florida game, I was fine an hour or so later, and all the wins I was perfectly fine

Why? Because they won. I don't look at wins as "embarrassing," "terrible'," or "lucky" to justify my hatred for coaching because IMO coaching is 50% of the game and execution by players are the other 50%.

More than I'd like to admit. Between 1/9 and this last heartbreaker to Bama. I've un-friended all the Bama fans on my FB friend list. Not having to read "Roll tide roll" after every TD against West Carolina has helped dramatically.

When I was younger it affected me. Now, I'm more concerned about my career and fiancé. If LSU wins , great! If LSU loses, give me a day , then I'll be good to go. I'm already ok with Bama winning another NC. We should of won it last year, but that's life. Life's not fair, then ya die

ETA: I feel sorry for those Bama fans. They are certifiable. They lose one game, and their fans commit domestic terrorism . Now that's scary.

I'm sure I do, if you think of it as a rational adult...

But isn't that at least part of what makes our fanbase as passionate as it is? We care and we get into it - our kids and our parents and our spouses all know the players names and numbers and we watch as if it were our own out there - because it is!

And yes, I'm one of those who still can't stand to see or hear anything about 1/9.... kind of makes me want to throw up...

More than it should. I enjoy the passion though! The favorite chant of our family that we shared with our mom while she was still alive was to call each other during a tense game with a "DO YOU BELIEVE!!!!!"

U title should have included,"close wins against perceived inferior opponents" in ur subject line also. I think a close win affects some people as bad as when we lose. Never understood this way if thinking.

fricks me all up. Still cant talk about 1/9. Trying my best to block it from my memory bank. In my mind. the people that it doesn't bother when we lose, are the people that leave at halftime. Our players see that and maybe thats why they have trouble blowing out inferior teams. They know some of our fans are weak.

I mean, yeah, I could act all super rational, mature, and badass and say it doesn't do anything for me because I have a life, etc.

I have a wife, a 1 year old son, a life, and like to think I keep a level head most the time. My weakness is LSU. When they lose, I turn into a bitch. But I'm getting better at it.

Loosing to Bama puts me in a bad mood for the day but I soon get over it. If u live behind enemy lines, u would too.It is easy to be an Lsu fan in La. but try this up here. Not to worry I have been here 35 years & wear my colors 6 day's a week!
