May every person in this film die painfully by being ripped apart by zombies. They're not taking this genre from me!

Saw the preview, looks more like a RomCom. My wife wants to see it, so it must be bad.

Funny this thread turned into a vampire / zombie dick slapping fest.

I see that

Edit: Part of the reason for starting the thread was to see if there were anybody that actually believe some zombie outbreak or something similar could actually happen. Only one person so far has hinted they he thinks there could be one.

Zombies are a great horror villain because it plays on our fear of pestilence and disease. Also, unlike most horror villains, a zombie cannot be reasoned with. It is a force of nature. Actually, one zombie is no threat, hundreds of zombies are. It's pretty great how something so weak can become a threat by sheer weight of numbers. Also, I like slow zombies due to the inevitability of the whole thing.

Also, zombie parables have to be dystopian stories, and dystopia is one of my favorite subgenres. I like the idea of the total breakdown of society and a "return to nature". Even more itneresting is the attempt to recreate society (which is what I like about, say, the end of 28 Days Later).

Vampires have always been sort of the allure of death. They've always trafficked in sex and lust as far back as Nosferatu and Dracula. Twilight is really not a huge leap for the genre. But I dont find death sexy or alluring, I find it gross and decaying. Which is why I prefer zombie tales.

I just keep doing this to Baloo's posts again, but..

/thread

And poor werewolves, or were-creatures, they are awesome, but Thanks Twilight.

Ghosts are way more overplayed than Zombies right now, imo.

I wouldn't say that I hate the movie and TV craze. I hate everyone that seems to believe that every thing that happens in the world seems to be a prelude to the zombie apocalypse. The obsessiveness of these people is what I hate.

This kind of sentiment can only bring about the zombie apocalypse. Deny it and it will happen.

I do not recognize any fictional reality which has both vampires and werewolves. They always screw it up. Werewolves? Awesome. Except in Twilight and Blade. I simply do not recognize it.

Well, except Monster Squad.

Because they ALWAYS try some kind of heirarchy of relationships. Subservient werewolves. Caste systems. Vampires as clean, smart and intelligent, werewolves as biker dudes (Thanks True Blood).

Scientific proof that werewolves have nards.

But do that many people have THAT big of a fear of pestilence and disease? To the point a human can become like that. I wish the world wasn't the way it is with pestilence and disease, but that is with current/real life diseases; not a fear of super fictional problems. They are also to dull to be frightened. A psychopath is frightening, he could be your next door neighbor. That's a real possibility. Close your eyes and can't sleep because of what you just saw on the news. Not the same with a zombie, there's no real reason to be frightened but rather intriguinged.

I hate the zombie craze too. Sure, the Twilight pablum damn near ruined vampires in current culture. But believe me, Ann Rice's Vampire Lestat would frick up zombies all damn day and not break a sweat.

As far as who would win? It's been scientifically proven: Vampires baby!

I used to piss off my old college room mate when I would suggest that all of the Anne Rice vampire books were just thinly veiled homoerotic porn books.

Well, you weren't wrong I don't think. Rice was pretty obsessed with porn literature. I'm pretty sure she wrote some actual porn type stuff under a different pen-name (and based them off of fairy tale characters at that)

I've always thought that Rice's best writing were the parts of her books when the characters were human - before turning into vampires or being revealed as witches, etc. I think she had the talent to make it as a mainstream author. But can't really fault her for making the big $$.

On Zombies, I'd bet it appeals to some part of our subconscious fear of nature from way back - maybe when we weren't the only "human" species or something like that. Kind of like all the dragon stuff must reflect some subconscious fear out of the past.

The only thing I hate about the craze is the plethora of shitty movies. The shitty movies to good movies ratio is way lopsided and leave you thinking you could do a better job. I guess that's why there's so many shitty zombie movies. Everyone thinks they can do better.
