Or you can simply place the asparagus across the grate

i usually put some cauliflower and asparagus and i use that grate for all kinds of stuff that's hard to turn on the grill.

Will it do stove top as well? I'm always afraid of undercooking chicken to the point that I overcook the hell out of it.
It's designed for a BBQ pit because it can read both meat and source temps, but I use it all the time with my oven and stove top. If it's true that you've cooked chicken not to your liking then this baby's gonna pay for itself in just a couple of uses.

I'll just list various kitchen things as useful/not useful, mainly from wedding gifts:

Useful:
Le Creseut dutch oven (Sam's club knockoff would probably work, but the brand name one will last forever)
A good knife (prepare to spend over $100)
Cast iron stuff
Blender
Kitchen-aide mixer (if you do any baking)
spatchula/slotted spoons/large non-abrasive spoons (you can never have too many of these)
A nice can opener (manual $10 variety--you'd appreciate this if you go back to using the all-metal cheapie can opener)
Salad Spinner

Stuck in the back of the cabinet above the fridge:
Immersion blender
Any "grill" pan (those pans with the stupid raised grooves to supply grillmarks)
Fondue set

Immersion blender
I use mine all the time. What's stuck in the back of my pantry is my bread maker and juicer. Loaves of quality bread are too easy to purchase, and the juicer is simply too much clean up for what it does.
