State and Local Per Capita Welfare Spending

This debunks the prevailing argument on these boards, about the southern states being the leeches.

The point wasn't leaches in terms of welfare per se, but in money taking from the federal government by States. Think of the individual states as the welfare recipients not the people of them.

Second, what do you care about how states spend their own tax money?

Similarly you know blue states tend to be more urban and thus more expensive. If you are helping someone with rent it makes sense that you would have to give them more in NYC then in rural lousiana

Actually, the states that have more corporations headquartered in them always appear to pay a higher percentage of taxes per capita. Because corporations pay billions in taxes and add nothing to the head count for each state. If you look at per capita goverenment spending per state, which is the only relevant number when you are running trillion dollar deficits, you will find blue states clustered at the top.

Maybe they should move? Just a thought. If you cant afford to live in MOnte Carlo, maybe Jupiter Island is more your speed. I mean, I'd love to to live in Manhattan but I just cant swing the $4000 per month rent so how bout a little sumpin-sumpin to get me by for the next, oh 20 years or so.

Pussification of America continues!

Perhaps you don't understand the significance of separating the data by welfare funding.

I was under the impression that urban centers were the most cost efficient way for a population to live. Everybody is closer to what they need: food, job, school.

Holy non sequitor batman.

I don't think anyone ever said cities are more cost efficient, though they are more environmentally efficient. Part of the reason rents in cities are more expensive is because more people want to live there.

Cities are cheaper then suburbs and rural areas for things like transportation costs etc, but I don't know of any welfare program that pays these costs.

Yes, but if you take out the increase in rent, the amount of energy and resources required per person is less in an urban area and increases as you get more rural.

The myth that the Southern red states know better and vote red because they see the negatives of welfare? Yea, this certainly does make proponents of that myth look stupid.
