Yesterday I went to put some ribs on my Kamado Joe and noticed the inner ceramic ring is starting to crack. Has anyone else had this happen to them? The grill is only about a year and a half old and suprised this would happen so soon.

My uncle had a bge many years ago, well before they became a hot commodity. His cracked on limited use.

I don't think he replaced it. His came from Asia, I think, so it was probably a different manufacturer without warranty access.

I thought BGE was made in Mexico and assembled in the US? No?

The concept came from Asia...southern Japan, Korea, etc. My uncle(career Air Force) brought his over from Korea, I believe. Wikki says a guy in Georgia statrted the US version...I don't know. I do know it's an Asian creation originally...and my uncle's had a crack that'd make the Liberty Bell blush.

Thanks for the history lesson. Had no clue KAMADO grills came from the far east. Come on dude...

You said your Uncle's BGE cracked and then said it was made in "Asia". I simply pointed out that BGE is not made over there.

His Kamodo grill was big...green...and shaped like an egg. It was as much of a big green egg as I've ever seen. It was referred to as a " big green egg"...just sayin'.

A "hairline crack" should not be a problem. Cracking and scaling off of Ceramic would be a problem. Which is it?

The BGE has a fire box that I would call internal like you described. It will crack if you do high temps...but it doesn't matter because it still works fine. Advice is use your warranty for a new one and store it in the garage until the old one is too messed up to use.

Is this similar?

Are you talking about the inside ring? If so, it will be fine. Mine is cracked and it still works.

Yes......though I may make a warranty claim just to have it fixed. I didn't think it would affect performance.
