I've heard a bunch of my Texas buddies here say they would decline the cotton bowl invitation because the school is still pissed at A&M leaving the big 12 and a loss against the aggies would hurt their recruiting.

not anymore,, not since all these automatic tie ins

truth is most bowl team lose money but they cant opt out
I think the Hawaii bowl is the only one where payoutx are guaranteed by ESPN, due the expense of travel

A&M would sweep and mop the floor with Texas. that team and their coach are pathetic. its going to be several years until Texas is a respectable football program again.

I agree on A&M clobbering them but totally disagree on your second statement. Texas is the richest team in college football. They can get almost any coach they want in football possibly even little nicky if Saban is looking for more money. Once they get the right coach they will be a top 10 team every year again.

I don't think that's quite true. A few years back, Clemson and So Car declined bowls as punishment for their teams having an ugly brawl against each other.

However, if Texas declined a Cotton Bowl bid to avoid playing the Aggies, they would humiliated 1 billion times more than if they lose to the Aggies by 50. I could see them trying to get the CB to pick someone else and going to the Holiday Bowl, Mack Brown's 2nd home but they won't decline a bid.

They are 8-2 and ranked #15, if they beat KSU they will probably be top 12, but yeah, they are pathetic and going no where

your buddies are wrong (at least I'm 99% sure). Yes, there's a bunch of internet badasses who claim we would. They're wrong too. The repercussions for bowls in the future (ignoring the media repercussions) would be bad - and the payout for the Cotton is significantly more than what the next in line bowl would be anyway. Not sure the league would even allow a team to pass up a higher paying bowl since money is split. Texas would accept and go play in it.

I for one think it would be a great game to go see and I would be there (hopefully on the field with a pass from a buddy in Dallas). So from that perspective I hope Texas does go to the Cotton Bowl (assuming it's our best option).

yea and with the exception of maybe 2 of their wins, the rest came against high school caliber football teams.

That would be hilarious, UT running away from the Ags like a bunch of little kids. Way to man up UT.

Like Ole Miss who they beat 66-31? Besides Florida who has Georgia beaten this year that's so much better?

Hate Texas all you want, you can think they are underachieving and over rated but 8-2 in the Big 12 is far from "pathetic" and going no one where.

Lol they might be looking at a BCS game if they run the table AND Oregon wins the PAC 12 or South Carolina beats Clemson

That would look worse for recruiting than losing to A&M

You can decide to NOT go to a bowl game all together, but if you go you dont have much choice as to which bowl game you go to.
