as a serious answer to the question, I think you have to give Vitt a very strong look if SP were to not come back. I think he has shown quickly how valuable he is as a leader to this team. The problem is that we have a rough stretch to finish the year. We only play one team with a losing record, Carolina. So, some people may cool on the idea of Vitt if we lose some of these remaining games. We could lose the next 3 games and then still have tough games against the Bucs and Cowboys before finishing up with the Panthers.

That said, I'd probably give Vitt a shot if he could hold onto the rest of the staff. If SP takes some of the guys with him, I'd probably just hire a new head coach and let him fill his staff.

OP: Can you answer a reasonable question for me?
If a full grown male elephant escapes from the zoo, breaks into your house, opens your fridge, pours himself a glass of Orange Juice, leaves the carton on the counter, goes into your room, rapes you without waking you up, then sneaks out the back door, would you be mad that he didnt put the OJ back in the fridge?

Does the elephant in this scenario pull out? Answer will determine relative priority of OJ issue.

I think he'd have too.

If he didnt you'd wake up for sure. But he pulls out, and you wake up confused and sticky

In that case, no. I would not be pissed about the OJ. I call in the Wolf from Pulp Fiction, and he might like some OJ cause I buy shitty coffee.

If the Saints make the playoffs and SP turns out to be traitorous, greedy dick that he's beginning to look like, then yes, he deserves a serious look.

Oh my god. I honestly think you are actually Duncan.

And to everyone else, chill the frick out. Y'all are really dragging this board down. While I agree that Payton will 100% be back next year, the OP was just asking a hypothetical about Vitt. All the elephant rape and DIAF and don't wake up comments are really unwarranted here. Maybe in other instances, but come on people.

frick all these douchebags in here. Honestly if Payton doesnt come back, we might just consider someone else for the HC job. Better than leaving it vacant. And of course we would consider the guy who held the position for the past year, knows the team, has rapport with the team and fans, and was chosen this year as the Interim HC. Very insightful and thought provoking question. Thanks for you wonderfully contributing to solid debate thread.

Yes, you did. I just though there was no reason for this dude to get attacked. There was absolutely nothing wrong with his question. Your elephant story was ok.

Probably not. I'll agree with you there. I think it was more a game-day thing.
People freak out when everything after an awesome victory yesterday isnt happy go lucky threads.
We need a stickyd thread for all things relating to Coaching changes, because I have a serious feeling that if we lose one more game this season the board is going to implode.

Sean Payton isnt going anywhere. And when he comes back, Vitt will probably leave. Especially if we crack into the playoffs. Someone is going to offer him a HC job somewhere. And i dont think he'll stay here when he sees the offers. I wish he'd stay here, but he'll leave and i'll wish him the best. Vitt is a great coach, has "swagger", and all that, but he doesnt come close to the fierce sideline presence, dominating Coaching style, and pure absolute unmatched "swagger" that Sean Payton has. Let's not forget who built this team, who brought in these coaches, who brought our team out of the gutter, who we owe everything to.

Also, this is funny:

not sure why the Op was attacked either, however i think "should" Payton leave, although I highly doubt he would, i think Vitt should be considered for HC - he has gotten the team more solidified and playing well than when he was out on suspension.

Breesus - the elephant story slayed me.
