First off if the ref does his job and calls Loston down when his knee touches then the foul never occurs.

The penalty was a helmet to helmet contact on the QB.

Once the QB threw the INT and is going to make a tackle he shouldn't be protected by that rule. He was being blocked and they hit helmets and threw the penalty flag.

Regardless the 15 yard penalty was a pretty big call towards field position.

Can't do that to the QB...Not right, but its a flag that you just have to avoid. That being said, they did it to Mett a few times, and only got called once.

The QB was being blocked and they hit helmets. There was nothing egregious about the block.

Like you said, Mett took shots all game long and was only flagged once.

The hit that knocked Mett out for a play, wasn't that spearing? Led with the helmet into the the QB's rib cage.

They flag WR's that are up in the air and get hit. But watch as QB's take shots like that. If anyone is defenseless, it's the QB.

It was a completely incidental helmet to helmet hit. It isn't illegal to hit helmets you are supposed to lead with them.

If it is helmet to helmet it is a penalty no matter who it was against...

I think his point was that after throwing an interception, the QB becomes any other player (defender) and while being blocked, a helmet to helmet hit should not be a penalty. If every helmet to helmet hit was called an penalty, how would the o-line block. Now if the person launched themselves into the block "aka Spearing" leading helmet to helmet then the normal spearing rule would apply. If it was helmet to helmet contact during a normal block, then probably a BS penalty.

that's crap. The QB was running to tackle Loston and got blocked from the front. He wasn't defenseless and he was no longer a QB....he was a defender trying to make a tackle.

It was a crap call and got changed to an even crappier call

What baffled me was the contact above the helmet penalty. How can you have contact above the helmet?

The rule needs to be changed. With replay, if the foul occurs after the player is determined to be down, then any subsequent penalties are no longer valid since they occured after the refereee failed to blow the play dead. Even personal fouls.

Guess what? Two hours before the game, the sec refs. office moved from Birmingham, Al. to Jackson, Mississippi. No matter where the SEC refs office is located, LSU will always get screwed by the refs. Maybe LSU should join the league that Texas controls, maybe then, the idiots will have a reason to bitch.
