A seriouus discuussion on prepping

Are any of you prepping for disaster, be it economic, power failure, or what have you?

I realize some of the characters on Nat Geo are out there to a one degree or another, but the subject matter many bring up are pretty serious items of concern.

Do you have any contingency plans and are you prepared?

I'm prepared for a week long disaster. Above that, I make my way back to my parents farm.

I have a ways to go, but I do have a plan. I could probably make it a week or so, but depending on the crisis, I'm almost certain I won't wait it out bunkered down in the BR.

I've been slowly preparing for 12 or so years with only a closer bit of land left.. While I don't hoarde massive amounts, I could survive with my family in home for upwards of 10 weeks. I find the process fun and funny to discuss with friends, most believe I'm a little nuts or just trolling them, both of which are true. For me, it's really about being able to survive and provide for my family solely off the land and with limited resources, if needed.

I think I am going to buy a couple of those food buckets that have 30 days worth of dehydrated meals. They are on Cheaper Than Dirt.

My plan is fair, if End-of-the-World for realz. I am in a 45 ft sailboat and we have a rally point in the Gulf of Mexico. Water Maker, Fishing Tackle, Guns...salty crew.

If you mean Hurricane, just board up the windows and check fuel, generator, water, snacks, beer, and 300#s of Ice...

I decided that for me the sailboat thing is what I am doing if I have to bug out.

Make sure to have some vitamin C, you don't want to go around repopulating the planet with scurvy, do you?

Yes. Several months worth. Solar Power for lighting and fireplace for heating.

Louisiana will be a tough state. Gangs break down in prison along strict racial lines. We would likely have that. Anyone near "urban" areas would be dead unless extremely well armed. In the country you'd need adequate numbers for defense of perimeter.

Barter will be more for goods than paper or rocks (gold or silver). A bunch of provisions without adequate defense makes someone an easy target.

This industry will do well with more Obama decline. Gun sales shot up immediately.

The lines at the gun show just yesterday, even around game time was pretty impressive. I noticed a lot of ammo being purchased.

I haven't, but the thought of it enters my mind often. I usually talk myself out of it with the notion that if I had extra food, water, supplies, etc. and my neighbors were in need, I'd probably give it all away anyway. I know there are those on here that think its foolishness, and conspiracy nonsense to prepare for some type of looming disaster, but is it anything more than common sense? I bet the people suffering from Sandy wished they had prepared better?
