Conan is so NOT funny.

I hate to agree but ever since he went to TBS he lost the magic that made him awesome on NBC. I've watched probably 3 episodes of the new version of his show.

I've been to a Leno one. You basically pick up tickets during the day. They give out more tickets than seats. Then wait in line for an hour or so before tape. They let all the people in on the "list" (producer friends, hot girls etc) who get the best seats in the house first. Then they let x amount of people in after.

The show itself was good. Leno comes out before and chit chats, make some jokes, explains the show, etc.

The one I went to was actually the one where Matthew mcconaughey played the drums in between commercials and during the show. Was an interesting experience.

I think Leno has the best monologue out there (Conan was good years ago). However I think Conan is the best interviewer of all the late night hosts. Never cared for letterman at all.

I went to the George Lopez show once it was fun because the crowd was genuinely in to it.

Been to Carson Daly's show and it was boring.

We saw Letterman a few years ago. Al Franken and someone from Greys Anatomy, no musical guest. We got tickets from some intern in Times Square with a clipboard. While waiting in like to go in, people from the show walk through the lines talking to people. They are looking for people who look like they are in a good mood or good looking, impress them, you may get seats right in front of Letterman during the monologue. They look for responsive audience members to put in front of him.

All in all....meh.

Saw a Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros "mini-concert" on the Bud Light Stage at the Jimmy Kimmel show this summer. It was a good show but had to wait around for about an hour and a half outside before they played. Apparently if I would have gotten tix to the actual show I could have at least sat down and watched the show in the studio before ES played. Since i just had tix to the concert I had to wait and watch the show on a shitty screen next to the stage. Then the studio audience came out and fill up the rest of the crowd space. The show was great and the sound was awesome but they only played 4 songs. They did play Home though :)

Saw Conan a few years ago before the whole Jay "DIAF" Leno incident. (frick you for him not bein on this list)

Hands down funniest hour and a hald of my life.

They comedian they bring in to warm up the crowd was awesome, Conan then came out and get the crowd in a comedic mood. He was great.

The band plays during the commercial breaks, and they are phenomenal as well.

Jimmy Pardo is Conans warm up comedian since Conan got the tonight show and the new one. Funny and excellent crowd work.

re: Anybody ever seen a Letterman/Leno/Kimmell/Fallon taping live?

Wife and I got tickets to Leno a few years ago. We got there early thinking we'd get good seats. Some fella in line near us said he's been dozens of times and that where you line up had no bearing on where you sit. He said the staff will seat the pretty people close to the stage and the uglies in back. I asked him why he was bothering to show up early (dude was hideous). He pointed to his leg brace and said you can also get good seats if you have a medical problem. He admitted to faking for a good seat.

We got seated in the first row near the band. They insisted that my wife get the aisle seat. Younger folks were placed near center stage. Leno came out to warm up the crowd wearing denim on denim (this was only 3 years ago). He was not funny at all, but the crowd laughed anyway (because we were coached and threatened (they said we may get booted if behavior was unacceptable)). He spoke about his guests which included Rainn Wilson and a lady comedian appearing on tv for the first time because she was filling in for Paula Abdul (her pill daze). He insisted that the crowd give her all the positive feedback they can since she was a noob. I found that to be a bit presumptuous and condescending to say that before her appearance. When she did perform, she was actually funnier than Leno.

The show was a well oiled machine. No re-takes. During commercials, staff came out to fawn over Leno and his guests and prep them for the next segment.

No cameras were allowed. Not before, during, or after shooting. The only keepsake we got was knowing we had set our DVR to record so we could see ourselves pretending to enjoy the show just as we were coached to do.

I'd rather attend an SNL taping.

I saw Jerry Springer and Jenny Jones back in the day in Chicago. I don't remember much about it. I can't remember how many times. Maybe twice each.

I did see a sitcom taping in L.A. or Burbank or wherever. That was cool as hell. It was LeBlanc's "Joey" show, which yeah isn't that cool but it was still interesting to see how it all worked. Unfortunately the series was axed before the episode I was at got to air.

Letterman 2008. It was fun I guess just to say I had done it. Maroon 5 played so that was a good bonus. It was better than eating at some chain restaraunt. Just go around the corner and see Rupert. That's more fun!

Went to a Craig Kilborn show in NOLA around 2001 I think. They dropped a bunch of tickets off at the fraternity house. I remember taking this hot little thing with me. She wore open toed shoes that day and that's where I saw she had the beginnings of a sixth toe on each foot. Creeped me out. Anyhoo, it was all about making it look like you were having a good time. They handed out shirts to those who acted it up the best. CK did some basketball thing in the back of the studio (he's pretty damn tall) and they moved all the fat women around and put the hot women in the shot. Zach Galifianakis was just getting known I believe and did one of his piano numbers. Pretty funny.
