| Acl surgery (Posted on 11/17/12 at 9:52 am)
Acl surgery Thursday about 11:00 am. Went to pt yesterday. I can't tolerate the pain medicine and this sob hurts. Any ideas? Whiskey can start around 5:09

My friend had this done a year ago and they used both. His knee is holding up but his hamstring not so much.

Ice, ice, ice. Take at least ibuprofen.

Gotcha. The pain meds didn't help me out at all....only hurt my stomach & made me queasy. So I didn't take any medication after either of my acl surgeries. After this weekend the worst will be over, and it will all be about pt & recovery

They didn't ask if you wanted a nerve block? Deal with the pain. The shite will hurt for a week.

Getting out of bed in the morning and the blood rushing down was fudging agony. Pain killers with beer made me loopy enough not to care though.

Doesn't a nerve block only last a couple hours? There's really no pain that first day. Once the surgery meds ware off, days 2-4 are what really suck. PT that first week sucks as well. Not being able to get your heel up off the table while tightening your quad is the most frustrating thing in the world.

My nerve block lasted nearly 48 hours. Prop yourself up in a chair with a pillow under your knee to keep it slightly bent. I pretty much slept there for a week. I also avoided work for two weeks and did noting but eat pain meds, go to PT and watch Magnum..

Suck it up and do your quad sets. Seriously it's very important you get full extension back ASAP

Isn't the nerve block where they shove a giant needle into your groin? Needless to say, I passed on that

DON'T sleep with anything under your knee...elevate it, but keep it straight. It's easier to get flexion weeks after surgery than it is extension. And do you quad sets!!!
