Looking at some old articles they were easily 1 & 2 in everything I seen, with Booty over Manning in most but not all.

Booty = Parade All-American Player of Year, USA Today Player of Year, Superprep #1 QB, was Superprep #2 QB when he signed again after baseball.

Manning = Gatorade ALL-American Player of Year, Superprep #2 QB (#8 Overall)

Seems like Parade was most prestigious at time, followed by Gatorade, then USA Today, and Superprep. Yea it's easy to see why you'd hear more about about Payton if you were in New Orleans with them both being huge national recruits, but almost every article I've seen doesn't mention 1 without mentioning the other. Even the article for Peyton winning Gatorade Player of the Year mentions Booty in the first paragraph.

Booty was also Baseball America #1 High School baseball recruit.

Picked LSU over Mississippi State (where dad played), Miami (coming off a national championship & runner up the previous 2 years), Colorado, Texas, Stanford and Texas A&M.

Advocate article said he wanted to play baseball & football in college and LSU coming off a baseball national championship likely played a roll.

I am also curious to see what other people think after he finished his senior year.

One thing that this young man has that cannot be seen on his football film.... CHARACTER!!! That is an intangible that takes his gifts to the next level. Perilloux may have had gift but he lacked the leadership of this young man.

I think people forget or are too young to remember how highly touted he was. He was the USA Today offensive player of the year, and national player of the year according to many publications. He was also the shortstop on the USA Today baseball All American team as a shortstop.

I went to one of his playoff games and the college coaches present that I saw were a who's who among the profession.

Don't get me wrong... Who could doubt their gift (especially with the benefit of hind sight)
But ... how much nepotism was involved in their hype out of high school because they were Archie's off spring?
Would they have attracted as much attention if they had been born to an average Joe?

Just saying... Could they (especially Peyton) have attracted the attention that LF has on their own merit at 18?

Maybe so... just a thought.

Fournette is damn good but Kevin Faulk is probably higher on the "more touted" list. That said, we might be seeing it more out of retrospect since he was the trendsetter that turned everything for LSU

I would disagree I think.

Kevin Faulk was huge coming out of high school and dinardo plucked him a month after getting hired

Parade all American in high school ended up being an all American at LSU. That is pretty special

Travis minor was huge too

BILLY CANNON was a freak of nature.
Size & speed to be a star running back 50+ years later.

Lol I was looking at Cannons wiki page and came across this horse shite

quote:

He would later run the 100 yard dash in 9.4 seconds, and the 40 yard dash in 4.12 seconds.

Bill cannon, not usain bolt, is the fastest sprinter ever

Cannon was running 100 yd dash consistently at 9.5, and a 9.4 was .1 sec off the world record.

He also won the SEC shot put title.

He was a pro- bowl TE at Oakland. So he could catch.

He punted and kicked fg/pat at LFU.

He was an elite defensive back, along with Johnny Robinson, who was an all-pro db at KC.

As far as high school players, I would have to agree that Fournette is the most impressive i've ever seen. I dont think I ever saw any video of Cecil Collins in high school, I wish I could see them to compare though.

Fournette plays like a grown man.

eta: I'm 36. I remember the 90's. I even remember the early 80's!
