Man I wish I could comment.

It sucks with our current fiscal situation so bad.

Oh, I know. At least you get to see it for yourself.

We are entrenched in the military industrial complex with a hot credit card

Alas. I've concerns about leaving it up.
Don't know how long you've been there, but it's a miracle that you are able to make this post, what with all them Moslems coming at you to cut your head off and all.

I believe it.

Good buddy of mine is over there and he says it's common practice for thousands of dollars worth of equipment to just "walk off" and the typical response and concern is simply "how quickly can we get a replacement" Where the original equipment went is not even a concern.

That's why I say we could make large cuts to military spending and have virtually 0 negative effect on national security or troop protection.

For fricks sake, the US government spends 21 million PER YEAR to sponsor Dale Jr's stock car. They commissioned a study to see how the sponsorship effected recruitment. The study concluded that not one single recruit could be tied to the NASCAR sponsorship. NOT ONE.

A republican congressman from GA made an effort to cut it, but could not get ANY support. frick Washington.

And this is the problem with the Federal government being involved in something that does not require their involvement. This is common place in all state and higher governments. Spending like there is no tomorrow. No accountability.

If someone here was involved in SS/Medicare/Medicaid administration they would tell you similar horror stories of fraud, waste and abuse.

Enough is enough.

And we lease those 40 foot MILVANs.

One of the best ones!

They are leased FOREVER! As in, if they don't get returned(and they never do), they incur a monthly fee FOREVER!

I need to go into the container business!

Just for clarity for those that don't realize. When I say "forever", I mean it literally.

There are containers that will be getting paid for by my great grandchildren.

I get to see the financials and the civilian contractor side of the ledger for these gov military contracts over there (at least as they pertain to my client). I do not know how the bid process works (and I doubt there really is one), but I get to see the end result and profit margins. Mind blowing.

Then we're seeing some of the same stuff. Hell, maybe our lines of work aren't that far apart!!

Yep. It is absurd. Wish I could trade some stories about it as well.

Yup. Need to write a clause in the contract that says we will pay the price of the lease up to 1 1/2 the value of the container (or something like that - this is ridiculous).
