BIG Trout fan, but this is the correct choice.

Had Trout not faded down the stretch AND kept Cabrera from winning the Triple Crown, then he would have had a case.

The fact that Cabrera won the Crown was the killshot. If not that, then it was because Trout watched from home while Miggy played in the World Series.

22 of 28 first place votes is a blowout.

Agreed. But I think the "making the playoffs" argument is a bit overrated considering Trout's team won more games than Miggy's did. And isn't voting done prior to the start of the post season? Therefore voters didn't calculate Miggy going to the WS into their decision.

It would have been *much* closer had Miggy not won the triple crown.

The Triple Crown killed Trout.

Trout still deserved it in my opinion

Though these individual awards feel somewhat empty for me as a fan after losing in the Series, I am very happy he won something. Good for him, he deserved it.

Not surprised. Cabrera did have a hell of a year. I still think Trout got hosed big time though.

@MLBONFOX: FACT: It was exactly 45 years ago today that Carl Yastrzemski won the AL MVP Award (the same year he won the #TripleCrown). #HistoryRepeats

I thought it was a coin flip, but I've actually found the sabermetric case to be unconvincing. It's just been so antagonistic and complete dismissive that a guy who actually had a higher OPS+, Runs Created, and Adj, Batted Wins (to name a few advanced stats) had absolutely no rational case to the MVP. By way overstating the case for Trout, I found myself rooting for Miggy due to no fault of Trout.

This was the wrong windmill. There was a good statistical case for Miggy and acting like it didn't exist and that any vote for Miggy was a vote against reason or science just really turned me off. If I were a voter, I likely would've voted Miggy just out of spite (which is not fair to Trout).

I will continue to say this, though: WAR is wrong. It's not a little wrong. It's a LOT wrong.

Really? How dare you suggest that Ben Zobrist might not have been the best player in the American League in 2011? WAR is never wrong.
