I am puzzled when people shower praise on Vasquez; the guy is slow, cannot shoot, and is absolutely horrible on defense. Chris Paul's backup (Bledsoe) is superior to anyone we have. Is there anybody out there that we could get that actually plays like an NBA point guard?

So you choose to start this thread the day after he drops 24 and shot over 50%?

Seriously

24 points on 8/15 shooting
3/4 on 3 pointers
9 assists to 2 turnovers
5 rebounds

Go back whence you came!

Vasquez will have to be replaced in order to win a title.

That isn't happening this year.

Calm thyself.

There are tens of things that need to improve. Note them, express the concern, maybe offer a solution. Pointing out a problem and saying that someone should do something about this is basically signing other people up for work.

"Feed me." Nah, it doesn't work like that.

Vasquez has been great. We need a backup point though. Roberts dribbles to much, he would be better of the ball.

He may not be the answer long term but he's been playing very well this year and completely shitted on Lin last night. GV doing work.

Vasquez won't be the ultimate answer, but he's playing well enough for where we are now until we fill in some other holes.

he's averaging 12.3 and 8.8 assists through 6 games...he has his defensive issues and needs to improve his field goal percentage, but he has played well. he won't have to force offense as much when/if Gordon returns

If the right pieces are brought in around him, Vasquez, in my opinion, could definitely be a championship PG. He manages the ball well, and considering how supposedly terrible he is on defense, we are upper tier defensive team. We do need another legit PG, but not enough to do something stupid to get one.

I give you:

Mario Chalmers
JJ Barea/Jason Kidd circa 2011
Derek Fisher
Derek Fisher
Rajon Rondo
Tony Parker
Jason Williams/Gary Payton circa 2006
Tony Parker
Chauncey Billups
Tony Parker
Derek Fisher
Derek Fisher
Derek Fisher
Avery Johnson
Steve Kerr
Steve Kerr
Steve Kerr
Kenny Smith?

Point is, you don't need an "elite" PG to win a championship in the NBA.

I agree that an elite pg is not necessary. But most of the guys on your list were good to great three point shooters. The guys that weren't (Parker, Rondo) were elite players in other areas. Avery is an exception, but that team had Twin Towers.

Vasquez has played well. I've been impressed with how he has cut down his turnovers. But they either need more pieces or he needs a reliable outside shot if they want him to be the guy
