And if you use the old Ballon D'or, the results are not quite as bad but still pretty impressive:

Only 2 of the last 15 winners didn't play for one of the Spanish giants (Nedved and Shevchenko).

Granted, the results are skewed by how a handful of players have won the award repeatedly, but it's still a pretty remarkable stat.
