We could eliminate all this "Fair Share" talk with a Flat Tax...

straight 15% across the board, regardless of income. Of course, neither side will ever go for this because they wouldn't be able to put all of us against each other. Both sides would lose the ability to manipulate and "buy" votes with their "taxation" and "fair share" argument...

That's a proportional tax, different from a flat tax.

It's still unfair because rich people will still pay more.

Yep.
Spending has to be cut back 5pts to 19.6% as it was during Clinton/Bush.

Well, it's the fairest system possible. Unless, of course, you think it's unfair that some have more than others.

Fair Tax LINK

quote:

The FairTax is a national sales tax that treats every person equally and allows American businesses to thrive, while generating the same tax revenue as the current three-million-word-plus word tax code. Under the FairTax, every person living in the United States pays a sales tax on purchases of new goods and services, excluding necessities due to the prebate. The FairTax rate after necessities is 23% and equal to the lowest current income tax bracket (15%) combined with employee payroll taxes (7.65%), both of which will be eliminated.

and there again is the conservative obsession with fairness.

I really do think it's the only thing left to complain about for some people.

Pit peopel against each other while they take money for lobbying and from lobbist to spend on blow and hookers.

Your principle is good, Fair Tax is where it is at. Started the tea party movement on tax day before it was snatched by the right wingers and turned to a religious zealot movement.

What happens to the money people save, they get to hoard it tax free?

You also assume consumers spend rationally, which they do not. A large part of economics is consumer psychology, people won't spend as much because they perceive goods to be higher, despite the fact they would seemingly have more discretionary income.

I can see it going one of two ways, I don't think it's worth the risk to find out. I'd prefer a proportional income tax, rather.

Actually they'd spend more as they would have more take home pay. We aren't a nation full of people who are prudent with their money. A large portion of people will spend what the make, period.

I'd support the Fair Tax 100%
