Primitive Deer Hunting

Wildlife and Fishery

Can I use a H&R .44 mag break action Rifle or not...

LINK

I called Cabela's and this woman I was talking to say I couldn't use it.. She told me that the gun you are looking for is the H&R Single Shot 444 Marlin.

Both guns are similar.....??????

Single shot, breech loading rifles, .35 caliber or larger, having an exposed hammer that use metallic cartridges loaded either with black powder or modern smokeless powder. All of the above may be fitted with magnified scopes.

From the La Dept of wildlife hunting regs booklet.

Eta - never mind. I see you linked that.
Yes I believe it is allowed.

They should just rename primitive hunting to second rifle season. Not that i am complaining but there really isn't anything primitive about it anymore.

I was close to posting the exact same thing.
At work we always talk about the next step will be a real primitive season with flintlocks, and then single shot season.

The location i presently hunt is pretty tight so there isn't a need for a bolt gun anymore. I normally just bring the .45-70 handi rifle.

If hunting in Miss. during the so called primitve weapon early season, read the rules. I learned this while learning the deer feeder laws. NO BUCKS!

Early Primitive Weapons Hunt /Crossbow

Nov. 5 - 16, 2012

Antlerless Deer Only (private and open public land).
