I'm a little surprised at no Gooch, since they're in Europe and he's been getting a little time at his club. (keyword little, but still)

I'm not that surprised. He's been pretty bad his last few caps. I'm more surprised by the Edu call. I think he's only dressed for two games this season with Stoke.

I'd tell this guy, sorry, but we've moved on.

Would be a mistake on many levels. I'm excited that he's back in the fold and at least saying he is committed.

Like the roster other than central defenders but won't be surprised if we get torched. Interested to see whether Edu gets time in defense.
I'm betting a midfield of Williams, Bradley, Gatt, Klejstan.
Also, should have left Gomez home.

This. We have tried a few people at the right back position, but there haven't been many who have shown that they can defend well and play up on the wing like Dolo. A lot of that had to do with he and Donovan's chemistry with overlapping, and give-and-go's. Securing Chandler's services will be huge for us going forward.

Bc dolo is only like 32 and he's gonna be in his prime for next WC! Can't you see all of our depth at rb and lb, we have fab and dolo and even boca can play there! Why would we ever want an established bundesliga full back on our team? That league is like so bad

I posted this in the other Chandler thread but will put it again in response to Bho

I reacted like most on here and was very angry at this kid for all of this earlier, but I guess we have to just accept that he probably sees himself as German first and foremost, and his dream was to play for his country. Maybe now he has realized that that option will probably never present itself, and his desire to play meaningful international competition is driving him now. If he commits to the US and plays his arse off from here on out, he is good in my book.

Also, the lack of width on this squad seems to be the red flag again. Will have to wait and see who we throw out there

Gatt and Gyau are about as wide of players you can get, considering that they possess track speed and love getting to the touch line. Width is not really a huge concern, more a lack thereof experience on the wings.

Actually this lineup has a lot of width compared to those previously, Gyau and Gatt by themselves are more than we have normally (outside of Donovan)

ETA: Thenry beat me to it.

I've only seen highlights of Gatt. Saw Gyau when the U23s played Mexico in a friendly before Olympic qualifying and thought he looked great. Like what we hope Shea plays like.
I doubt JK would play them together, though. That's why I think we'll see Klejstan with Gatt.
ETA. I just saw that Jones made the roster, so now thinking JK will use Jones/Williams/Bradley together in a 5-man midfield. Though then I'd wonder why so many forwards. We could see the return of Williams on the wing.

exactly how i would feel if i were him. He has almost no connections with the US. Imagine if any one of us was a starter for an MLS team but had no chance to play for the USMNT after years and years of training. Then all of a sudden Norway said you have a chance to play with us, but you have to turn your back to the USMNT and forget about them for the rest of your life.

I sure as hell would have to think for a long time about giving up playing for the USMNT and playing for a place like Norway.

I would hope he goes with mix or kles instead of jones in the middle but I doubt it, somehow Jurgen loves jones irregardless of the card problem

Until he does, he's not good in my book. I can just see it now. I'll play against Russia and then when it's time for the hex, he isn't sure again. Until he is capped. frick him.

I really hope we get to see some of the newer guys play. We know what most of the guys on this roster can do for the US, let mix, gatt, gyau, etc. prove themselves. I really hope Jozy starts and plays well.

Pretty much how I feel. Though, I'd imagine this call-up came with a "if we call you for a qualifier in February and you flake out, you're done" stipulation.

I understand that people can get hurt in camp and that the camp itself is the experience, but calling in 20 guys for a roster of 18 is odd to me. This is a pretty short camp and 2 guys are just along for the ride. Sucks for those 2 guys

If I was in gyau's shoes playing in bundesliga 2, and got a call up for my nation (even nominally) I would be pumped.

It would suck if you're an established guy from another continent for sure though

I'd have to imagine one of the goalies doesn't dress. Howard will obviously play, so that means one dude is flying all the way to Russia from the US to sit in the stands. That's awful
