Seems like it would have been a good time to bring in Zusi, what else is he doing right now? Oooooh, I just got in an MLS burn.

Timmy Chandler back in the fold? I thought we had seen the last of him.

Chances we'll see Gyau, Mix and Gatt actually participate in this one?

Don't see a three defensive mid lineup with that group.

(Although I wouldn't think Jurgy would try that kind of a lineup in a friendly, but you never know with him.)

Just the idea of Johnson and Chandler playing on the left and right respectively = wetness in my pants

This seems like a wasted call to me, at least right now.

I don't know what we'll see, but there's still a lot of central midfielders there and not many wide players. Granted, I don't even really know what Mix's best position is but he seems like another who's more of a natural central player.

We just don't have many wide players overall. I'd be pretty surprised to see Gyau on the left and Gatt on the right to start the game though.

Diskerud is a bit of surprise, but he's been a regular for his Norwegian team for awhile. Joe Gyau is a real unusual call-up considering that he's barely featured for St. Pauli in the 2. Bundesliga. The kid has some of the best overall athleticism of any player we've ever capped, circa 2005 Eddie Johnson notwithstanding, but, as with GAM, maturity seems like an potential pitfall.

Boyd on Gyau, reported to thenry

quote:

I would say Joe Gyau, because he’s a beast. He is so freaking fast, and he’s training with the pros at Hoffenheim. He’s learning a lot right now, and he should be able to help the team soon as another weapon.

Surprised Gyau got the callup. Same with Edu. I would like to see Lichaj get a look. Also, why no Dolo?

I've only seen him play 3 or 4 times, but he's struck me as a Feilhaber/Kljestan type (i.e. jack of all trades/master of none).

Awesome that we finally get to see a lot of these names we keep calling for, especially against a pretty solid squad in Russia.

I assume they're just giving him a break from it to concentrate on club stuff. I would assume the same with Dempsey.

Not that it's entirely consistent, as you still have some European players that have been playing a lot for the national team and their clubs lately (Boca, MB, etc.)

That's all I can think of though. That and if they're calling in Chandler they might as well give him a game so then you're just having Dolo travel to sit on the bench.

I'm a little surprised at no Gooch, since they're in Europe and he's been getting a little time at his club. (keyword little, but still)

I suspect we see a lot of central midfielders to start the game (Klejstan on the "left") with two strikers, Jozy and Herc.

if there's a surprise start I'll go with Gatt on the right to go along with all our central midfielders.

Really Chandler?

I'd tell this guy, sorry, but we've moved on.
