This is the biggest misconception on this board. Yes he was the number #1 athlete coming out of high school. Did he get that ranking because of his rocket harm and ability to read a defense? Nope..Did he get that ranking for his hands and route running? Nope... He got it for his running of the ball, elusiveness, and how fast he hit top end speed. Now in his career at LSU he has had 95 carries for 683 yards. That is 7.2 yards per a carry. The most impressive thing about his YPC is that opposing defenses know when #10 is in the backfield he will be getting a hand off 98 percent of the time and they still can't stop him. I am the biggest Miles supporter and I love our coach but he needs to realize it's not a requirement to be 230lbs to be a running back in the SEC. It is a shame his talent is being wasted here. It's amazing this kids attitude and sticking with the team and he will be one of favorite Tiger's ever if he continues with it after he is done here.

Imagine how well he would have done at a school like Oregon or Georgia Tech. He would have been insane.

I totally agree with this. He does not touch the ball enough and should have been getting a few more carries a game. I know it would be hard with the stable of running backs that we have. The dude has been pretty electric when running out the back field this year. I wish he would have touched the ball a few more times again Bama when their D was gased.

Completely agree with your perspective on Shep. When you average over 11 yds a touch, you are not a bust. Yes, he struggled adapting to become a great WR with separation at the line of scrimmage, precise route running and consistently soft hands receiving the ball. But I have seen these same challenges in every other WR this season. I just really respect his attitude, his leadership mentoring theyounger players, and most importantly, he brings a unique skill set of getting to top end speed quickly and elusiveness that nederves more touches in these remaining games. Encouraged to hear Coach Miles reinforce it as well this week.

Geaux Shep...put an explanation point on your career at LSU in these remaining games!

Shepard should have recognized his limitations at QB, been recruited as a halfback/slot wr hybrid and redshirted his freshman year to learn the position. This or play QB in a less competitive conference.

I dont think he reached his full potential, but I also dont think he was used the way he needed to be used. Totally on the coaches and not Shep.

It's a recruiter's job and a coach's job to recognize a player's limitations, not the player's.

I agree with you're perception of Shep, and on top of his great ability as a runner he is a great student and human being. I will be proud to call him a fellow alumni.

If only he had caught some or all of those balls that hit him right in the hands.

He needs to be on the field regardless who gets the ball so when he gets it it is not telegraphed.

pretty much. He's not harvin but we could have utilized his abilites better than what we did.

there just isn't room for creativity in our offense.

A great offensive mind would have found ways to use shep.

Shepp is a great player on the wrong team. He would have been much better suited in a Big 12-esque offense.

I disagree. It seams that most of the time we go to him in a big situation, he doesn't come through. He drops a lot of passes and laterals.

But my biggest knock on RS is that if you fart next to him he will fall down. This, along with his butterfingers, is why he is not returning punts or kickoffs. We sure could use that speed in the special teams department.
