Twice, I believe. Wasn't he the coach in 2007?

An SEC West title could not have generated the exposure our program has received in the last two games vs. Bama.

not really. miles has a thing about saban and you would too if you followed him at LSU. hell, people are comparing miles to saban every step he takes. saban is his advesary whether he likes it or not. i believe that pushes miles more than anything else. productive people NEED challenges and these challenges stimulate the motivation to succeed. much more than money. once a person has his basic needs met, higher needs present themselves and they must be satisfied as well. i think the op has a very valid point.

No offense or disrespect for LSU but I don't think LSU alone was the driving force.

he never said it was. he was not saying bama hired saban to hurt LSU, he said bama thought it would hurt LSU. the motivation to hire saban was simple; y'all sucked and had sucked since stallings departure and saban was a proven top notch coach.

I know what he said and I said that was not the only reason.
Obvious when one is losing they look to hire a new coach. We're no different.

Similar to how LSU sucked before Saban was hired. The difference is I guess we were already and continued to suck during that time. Everyone was beating us, not just LSU so we wanted a coach who could bring us back UP not take another program back DOWN.
We don't look at it that way in that Alabama can only succeed at the expense of others. That would be auburn or Tn. Not us.

No, we would have had at least 3 more NC's.

And because Saban IS at Alabama, THEY'LL be back to back national champions. That part isn't good for LSU, and I don't see it being a good thing for LSU as long as he's there. Even though we're an elite program among the best in the nation every year, someone's there to steal our thunder, every year. At least, that seems to be the direction this train is headed.

We were beating Bama on the regular before Saban, so theoretically your post has some merit but logically its a fail.

I really don't think the impact on LSU or ties to LA recruiting had a damn thing to do with Bama hiring Saban.

Pretty simple... They were down and needed a proven program builder...Nick's agent let it be known he was not sold on the NFL and was open to discussions. Bama came up with big money... And landed him. That's pretty much the whole story.

The national exposure IS good for LSU but LSUs success is independant of Saban and Bama. I will give you that the huge national audience and tv coverage of our last 4 games has benefitted BOTH program's recruiting.... But not LSU alone.

If LSU had won on 1/9, I'd say this was absolutely true. The exposure and excitement the rivalry has generated, while still winning championships, would be huge.

Without the NC...you just can't say it's the 'best thing ever." It's a silver lining, but I'd rather have the championships.

Also, the four team playoff beginning in '14 is going to change the dynamics some. If LSU and Bama remain top 5 going forward, there will be more instances of potential rematches.
