doubt it will change minds that are closed anyhow but................

LSU, under les miles, is nationally respected and recognized as an elite program.

PROOF: the respect we receive by national "experts", the critisism we receive by the same guys when we are doing poorly (we are NATIONAL news). the exuberance shown when elite teams beat us. we validated florida and bama's image of themselves. when our players screw up, it hits national news. not just tm7. hell, other programs have guys in jail and maybe it makes the inside page of a local sports section.

i could go on and on. all i can prove is that LSU is more recognized currently as an elite program than ANYTIME in our history since Paul Deitzle (sp) teams of the late '50s. opposing teams and coaches know they have to go thru us to win the SEC.

So are you going to listen to the experts or not? Most of the problems fans have with miles is on offense.....pretty much what all the experts say also.

Why do some simplstic posters insist that if you have any criticisms of Miles, you are a "Miles Hater"
I see very few posters who hate Miles.
Seems to me, if you are even handed and pay attention , you must acknowledge both Miles' enviable record of wins/ losses and his ocassional, but perissitent and stubborn boneheadedness on offense and clock management .
Why is this hard to grasp?

I have no idea.

I know some spew hate for him but if you think another coach is better or he needs to improve the offense you are labeled as a miles hater and a fan of another team. Why would I want LSU to improve if I was a fan of another team?

to deny there is a core of miles haters in our fanbase is ludicrious. and to assume that my post, albeit simplistic, refers to you or posters that merely critisize miles is egomanic. although you may qualify as being stubborn with your inclusion of miles clock management. he fricked up in that ole miss game, what 3 years ago? but the brand stuck. i've seen other coaches do the same or worse and see it every year.

Who cares we are LSU fans.

Miles wins! I get that but to not admit he has some weaknesses with clock management and use of TO's is ridiculous. We rarely have TO's left at the end of halves.

Branding Miles' critics as "haters" is a trick intended to discredit his critics, without having to respond to the content of their criticism. How many times does it have to be said that name calling is the last refuge of the intellectually bankrupt?

You seem to be perfectly satisfied with second place, but the second-place finisher is only first among all the others who didn't finish in first place, either.

I would say there are just as many that will never admit he made a mistake. Both sides should be discredited and the realistic fans opinions should be the only one that matters.

where'd you learn that, psych class? and i'm not a name caller unless it fits. if it doesn't fit you, why do you even bother to respond? to not admit miles haters exist and to insist that this post even referred to mere critics is incorrect. you are trying to use "defection" but it is not working.

let's just say you made that up. a veiled attempt at name calling that just might meet the definition of intellectual backruptcy according to some.

Some people are unable to bring objectivity and analytic thinking to college football.
And, it's hard to be so detached that there is no emotion. That kind of detachment isn't fun, anyway.
However, Les' faults are persistently on display, much to the frustration of many .
Onme fault is underestimated, in my view , and that is his STUBBORNNESS.
Les could address the mistakes he repeats over and over by relying on the imput of other coaches. I fhe would do that, his outstanding record could be even better.

every coach has blunders. Miles may have a few more than others, but that is who he is, he takes more chances than others. The only times I have issues with Miles is when he goes conservative.

my bottom line on Miles and the LSU program.....

I will support anyone who wears the purple and gold, as long as they project a good image upon the school. I am a fan and a true fan sees his schools colors, not the person behind those colors.

What is scary about LSU is the same thing that is scary about the Joker.

We're both lethal and efficient, and highly unpredictable.

That's captivating and frightening.

If LSU played on 1/9 like they played Saturday night things would be different.

When we
-stop losing in goofy ways like Ole Miss 2009 & Tenn 2010
-put away teams like Towson and Western Kentucky in the first half so our back ups can get more PT
-have an offense with a pulse of creativity and not 3 yards and a cloud of dust
-when players like Trai Turner are recognized as a better player and get more PT on merit and not because of necessity (injury, dismissals)

I'll get on board.

When the Miles goes for it on 4th and 12 and gets stuffed and the camera pans to him he's got his finger in his ear. That's way most of the skeptical fans see him.

But then again, all this post is is my current opinion of him. Kinda like your opinion, it really doesn't matter.

The crux of the matter is that Miles gets it right for a majority of the plays of a game (Out of 85 plays Saturday night, he missed on only 7 :
The 54 yard FG, the fake FG, the 4th and 1 Wildcat run by Ware, and probably all 4 plays on that last drive (run, run, run, missed FG).

The problem is, the ones he misses on are the most highly visible and controversial.

In my opinion, I don't give a good goat plop about anything that happened before that last drive.
What I """"AM"""" sick about, is THIS:
We had a 1st and 10 from the Bama 32 with 2 minutes left.
Do SOMETHING to get the (*^&&%^%#$#$@#%@%^(*&&R%$#@#@~!#!~%#%$##$@!#%~ first down !!!!!

One first down, we have three kneel-downs, and we are #3 or 4 in the country with a great shot at Miami..........

There's legit critique of a HC and his (up till the last game) sputtering offense and then there's flooding the board with constant drumbeat of whining and bitching about the head coach and his failings. I'll leave it up to you to decide where you fall.

Yes, for some there is no "legit ciritque", and for some there is no legit praise.
The nature of football fans is such that people get carried away emotionally and are unable to think critically.
Those who want to improve on a very good record MUST think critically.

Following LSU football since birth (1955), I have never known a period of time where a majority of LSU fans were not critical of the coach (or players for that matter). It's the nature of LSU fans. it started for me with Cholly Mac and it continues today. Some fans just don't like Les Miles. Never have, never will. Some LSU fans just want to win no matter who the coach is or how they do it. Some LSU fans would rather be right than happy.
