you don't call a fake FG in a close game on 4th and long. it's a stupid play with an almost 0 chance of success

The run with Ware was to not have it be Mett and to not fumble.

it was stupid and had almost a 0 chance of success. should have just waited out the playclock taken the penalty, and pooch punted...or just legitimately gone for it

Fake f/g on fourth and 12 is retarded. I the onside kick, that was a pretty gutsy call even for Les and it almost worked. But the fake f/g never had a chance even IF you fooled the defense there is no way he runs for 12 yds. Now later in the game when he missed the f/g it was 4th and 4, that was the time to try the f/g. Just my .02

I said the exact same thing in another thread.

If all those plays work, he's a genius.

The 4th and 12 fake FG was terrible, agreed. I loved going for the 4th and 1, just hated the call to Ware.

I had zero problems with running 3 times and kicking a FG late. If we make that, with the way our D played up to that point, i was completely ok with playing out like that. I didn't like the chances of throwing an incomplete pass and giving them 40 extra seconds with the time running out.

The onside kick was fine, we obviously saw something in their return team that gave us the advantage, and we had that easily if Hairston doesn't get the bad bounce and touch it 1 yard early.

All in all, it definitely wasn't the best set of decisions, but we've cried about being too conservative for years, now we're gonna cry about taking risks.

It's not as bad as folks are making it out to be.

Playing for a FG on 3rd and 8 when a first down effectively ends the game.

This. People need to understand that Bama has scholarship athletes too.

I only disagree with the logic of two calls: the fake, especially when Bama came out in FG safe and the 54 yard FG.

Don't like long FGs except end of game situation.

PS- Anyone asking why Saban got away from running the ball? They averaged more ypa rushing than passing. They work behind that line and they don't need a 2 minute drive to win it.

the fake FG would still be a stupid playcall. it always has been a stupid playcall, and always will be

our stupid fake punt against ASU in 2005 was the same thing (even though that wasn't miles' call. it's just an example of a stupid call that worked)

quote:

I loved going for the 4th and 1, just hated the call to Ware.

the choice to go for it was smart. the play was horrible. i made a thread specifically on that one play, b/c it literally would take a miracle to work in that situation

but we've cried about being too conservative for years,

if miles thinks that his lack of aggression is due to THOSE sorts of decisions, then we're fricked

our overall gameplan is conservative. a few 4th down calls doesn't change the other 120 conservative plays

I thought Les was overagressive, actually.

1) The fake FG was just dumb. 4th and 12? Take the points.

2) The onside kick. I wouldn't have done it. It almost worked and if it did, Les would have looked brilliant. Frankly, I didn't think it was necessary at that point in the game, when the momentum had clearly swung in our favor.

3) The 4th and 1 try with Spencer Ware. Obvious play call. And again, that's another 3 pts. off the board. If Les had played those scenarios more conservatively, we win. In fact, Bama would not even have had a chance to win the game in the end.

Well by all means put in your résumé. If they work, they're genius. Nearly all Miles detractors said they'd be fine if Miles would just come up with a good game plan. Not play to lose. And stop being conservative. We did all of the above. Put up over 400 yards of O and were one prevent d from a win and are people encouraged. Nope. They hate Miles. Period. I don't know what to tell you bro. You'll never like Miles and because of that you'll always find something to criticize.

This thread does not make any sense. Our offense looked great, and the defense was fantastic outside of the last drive of the first and second halves.

Les tried to get too fancy when he didn't need to. Without the onside kick, fake FG, and 54 yard attempt that indirectly lead to a TD, LSU wins by 7-10 points.

Have you seen our WRs, Oline, and QB play this season in every game but Bama?

It's hard for a coach to open it up when we are borderling incompetent in the passing game.

no

that fake FG is not genius even if you get lucky and it works out for you. it was an utterly stupid playcall, regardless of results

pretty much

and we were winning the game until we started playing conservative and "not to lose"

we ended up losing the game because of it

the overall aggressive game was awesome. and hey look! IT WORKED! but then we slide back into pussy ball and lose

washington, too

i think we could alleviate pressure on our OL if we were more creative in our offensive scheming

you see how aggressive play took pressure off the OL and mett last night? being conservative just puts a bigger target on their collective backs

Miles was scared when it counted.

Playing for a field goal instead of a first down that would have ended the game.

Putting the atrocious prevent D back on the field after what happened to end the first half.

The 4th and 1 call was predictable and had no chance of success.

I see the logic behind the 3rd down run. I don't see the logic going to a soft cover 2 zone after that when we have been covering them just fine all night and pressuring the qb.

It was moreso plays working, then just aggressive play. We were able to keep passing because it was working.

In previous games, there was no point to keep passing and being aggressive when it was early 4th quarter and it hadn't worked at all up to that point.

quote:

that's a scheme issue, namely les refusing to run an advanced passing game

It may also be a personnel issue, namely Mett, the revamped oline, and WRs with dropsies being unable to run an advanced passing game. Who knows, if we tried that, it may work...it also may end up in us throwing 2 or 3 INTs a game and wasting a good defense effort.

it's amazing how a passing game opens up when you are allowed to pass over 2/3 of the field (the middle)

you aren't going to pass it well when you eliminate 2/3 of the field
