This is just plain sad. Obama incites race wars, division, and now due to mob rule unions, a civil war. Especially if the damned yankees vote for jug ears.

Because Katrina was handled completely differently under the Bush Administration. The partisan hackery on this board...Priceless.

Blanco, a Democrat was in charge after Katrina genius. She never turned power over to the Feds bc she simply didn't know the process to do so.

re: Alabama Utility Crews Turned Away in NJ for Sandy Help

kind of related topic.

i went to Texas for a few days immediately after Katrina because they were saying my power would be out for a couple of weeks.

i remember on the way back passing Guard units from other states and just regular people with "Going to help New Orleans" written on their car windows from as far away as Oklahoma and Arizona. I would honk and give a thumbs and thank you to every one of them i passed. I was literally tearing up while driving on I-10. I was very proud to be an American that day.

Representatives with Huntsville Utilities and Joe Wheeler Cooperative, two area utilities mentioned in media reports claiming their crews were not allowed to help with storm aid in New Jersey because they were non-union, said this morning the story is untrue.

The general manager of the other department mentioned, Decatur Utilities, has since verified claims that his workers were asked to affiliate with a union.

See story here.

Bill Yell, spokesman for Huntsville Utilities, said nine of his employees are currently helping with recovery from Hurricane Sandy and had no union-related issues.

"That's a rumor," he said. "We are starting work this morning with Long Island Power Authority. We were headed to a New Jersey utility but they had all the crews they could handle."

A spokeswoman for Joe Wheeler Electrical Membership Cooperative said the crews from Trinity also are assisting with storm recovery and, in fact, are unionized.

"It is not true for us," she said. "I don't know how we got lumped in there (in that report). We sent eight guys to Maryland, not New Jersey. They have been there since before the storm but they've finished work and are headed home this morning."

Its not even that. Just some stupid internet rumor. The energy guys had to answer the question on radio shows this morning. Just like the stupid rumors that the city / company is shutting off the water after every big storm. There were a dozen of those floating around on Wednesday as well.

re: Alabama Utility Crews Turned Away in NJ for Sandy Help

We've seen a number of news reports about electric line crews that are being turned away in the state of New Jersey, on the grounds that the crews are non-union.

Rest assured, our Alabama Power crews have not been turned away from anywhere. Our employees are proudly representing us in several states that have been affected, and have received a warm reception everywhere they've been.

Looks like Tucker Carlson and Fox have AGAIN been caught spredding anti-union propaganda... politicising a natural disaster? You betcha'!

Here's another link. Like I said. When you see an article like the one that started this thread, you know there's more to story. LIKE I SAID.

but hey, everybody wanted to hate on unions, so they jumped to a conclusion based on obviously little facts.

Is Decatur in Alabama? Because if it is, the stooge you're quoting is clueless.

Although I do have humorous imagery of southerners signing up for work up north, wanting union wages without being in a union.

NY energy: so will you be joining the union?
Alabama crew: he'll no. unions are evil!
NY energy: ok, great. well just pay you whatever prevailing wages, benefits, and overtime in Alabama are.
Alabama crew: on second thought. where do I sign?
