At least see what he can do when given every chance to be "the guy." Maybe confirm if he's indeed a bust or just unlucky with the 3-5 carries he gets a game in obvious running formations.
PT is the man, and frankly he should always get the bulk of the carries, but I want to really see what we have here.

If this will truly be a year where we can't make a playoff run, which that's what it looks like, we should definitely see what we have on the sidelines. We should run Ingram into the ground to see what he has and any other offensive player we have questions about. We should make changes on the defensive side, which that's what it looks like Spags is doing, and just see what kind of depth we have on that side of the ball. And when this season is over cut the fat, get rid of guys without heart and find the replacements!
Boom, send that to Vitt!

If CSP were on the sidelines, Ingram would get more carries because the offense would be more creative with their personnel groupings. Even when Charmichael was calling the plays last season, CSP was on the sidelines and I'm sure had input on the personnel groupings.
I don't think anyone underestimated how much Payton means to the team, but I think a lot of us overestimated the team's ability to overcome his absence.
With that being said, we're only 6 games into the season, with 10 to go. Still a lot of football to be played, so the Saints can still make their run.
The defense just has to get off the field before the other team scores.

I honestly think the best distribution would to be to run every play like PT is in the backfield. Split the carries between PT and Ingram and always have Sproles in the slot as a WR with the potential for screens or sweeps and the like.
The biggest problem with Ingram is that they are trying to turn him into this "bulldozer" when I never really felt that was his strong suit. Other teams know exactly what we will do with him in the game.
But yes, I'd like to see what he can do given full range of the offense.

Ingram sucks regardless of the situation.

That is without a question what Ingrim needs he is a rhythm back who will never excell in a system when you do not get multiple carries in a row. It takes a certain type of player to sit then come in for one play, bust a 10-20 yard gain, then sit down and try to do it again 5 plays later. With that being said I still do not think this gives us the best chance to win. We need to start going back to the screen game, the quick outs, get it out on the edges and let them go to work.

I'd be happy just to see Ingram get to run any other play than right up the gut. I cannot blame the kid for not producing when all he gets to do is run the same play over and over and over. Thomas and Sproles and every other back we've had has been able to run sweeps, off tackles, toss plays etc. All ingram gets to run is short yardage runs. Just open the play book to him so he isn't predictable. That's all I ask.

I would love to see the Saints do more than run for 7 yards and then try and be cute and throw some screen that doesn't work anymore. Get the other goddamn 3 yards on the ground. Keep grinding. They need to learn how to beat teams up.

Ingram was already run into the ground while at Bama. Then the Saints paid top dollar for damaged merchandise.

I agree with this, with more extoic personnel groupings you could find more ways to utilize Ingrim, I would like to see Ingrim in the backfeild with another threat like Sproles or Thomas, even out Jimmy in the bac field and motion him out wide to draw Linebacker attenion, that way he will have more lanes to work with.

quote:No, because it's irrelevant to see how he can perform on 25 carries per game since that is not realistic and won't happen in our offense.

Thomas and Sproles deserve to be in there and get touches.

I don't think his contract is that terrible

Ingram had 20 or more carries twice in his final season

Couldn't agree more.

No because then he'll have only 40-50 yards

Philly isn't THAT bad.

no, I'd prefer trading Ingram for a defensive player and use Ivory as the jackhammer in our Offensive backfield.

I think that's a great idea. In 4 or 5 games, he'll have 100 yards!

Our running game has suffured mostly because we are down by 14 in the first quarter every game

Yeah I'm sure we could get what Nnamdi or someone in this range for Ingram. Ingram has no trade value for anyone worth getting rid of him for. Nobody trades player for player much anymore anyways. No one needs a 2ypc back.
