how can a car that has NEVER done well at Martinsville get a 6th place finish when he needed it? Just seems like the 2 has been driving over his head all year.

He has been catching every single break possible. The 48 hasn't, yet still leads the points despite all those breaks.

JJ performs well at the 3 remaining tracks and his experience will play a big factor as well. Unless something outlandish happens in the last 3 races, JJ will take home #6.
