I picked about 6 lbs of chanterelle mushrooms in the rain today. Between 4 of us we picked about 22 lbs. Retail price for chanterelles locally is between 13-14$/lb.

We've got about 3 more weeks left in the season. Going back out tomorrow.

You're a braver man than I am. I'm not sure if I'd have to balls to go wild mushroom picking.

Why not? Nothing to it. It also helps to be carrying a Ruger .300 magnum That wasn't for protection, it was in case we saw something with horns. That area is a great area for deer and elk. Elk sign was EVERYWHERE.

I;m sure he meant that he wouldn't be able to know the difference between safe shrums, magic shrums and poison shrums.

Ah....chanterelles are very easy to identify, so I didn't even think of that. I can see that for someone else though, but they really are easy to spot compared to anything else we have out right now.

I had an uncle, now deceased, who would pick wild oyster mushrooms off the willow trees in So Louisiana. I can remember him coming home with a 5 gallon bucket full of mushrooms. They were awesome.

While hunting, I've looked at mushrooms growing on willows several times since, but I don't have the balls to pick & eat them. I buy my fresh shrooms at Whole Foods.

I do it all the time. As long as it is off a willow tree it is harmless/delicious.

I pick those in the spring time. Those along with chanterelles are both very easy to spot.
