I know its frowned upon and use of a spit containing apparatus is suggested but I just can't do it. I've tried bringing bottles and shite with me and they work fine for box stands but lock ons and climbers not so much. I might spit a dozen times during a 3 hour hunt and I know it prob hurts my hunt.

Was wondering if maybe dumping a can of snuff once a week near a stand or bait site a few weeks prior to hunting might get the acclimated to the smell so when you do hunt it won't be something new.

Thoughts?

Spit off the side. They don't mind.

Know someone that did just that. Had a good buck come in and went to shoot. His bow string hit his spit bottle. MISS! He kept it in his top pocket.

Don't think it matters much. I use to spit my dips out at the stand before season while i was putting out corn.

I know the skittish deer I hunt aren't bothered by Copenhagen snuff. I don't know about the fruity flavored snuff.

About 10 years ago they weren't bothered by a little Mary Jane. I'm not sure about now.

I generally dip in the stand, I have even smoked before and didn't have any problems, I try to stay away for smoking since I know the smell is so much stronger than dip but I have had deer under my stand before while i had a smoke lit up.

Every time I've been winded I've wondered if it because of the dip or just cause I stink. Or how many times a deer was. Coming in and smelled it and decided to go around. Guess there is really no way to tell for sure

Sad when ones "needs" to dip or smoke and can't stop for at least the duration of a hunt. C'mon man!!!!

It doesn't hurt. I had a young buck actually smell and eat a leaf off a tree I had spit on under my stand one evening a couple of years ago while bow hunting.

When you hunt all day like I do, it's unavoidable. I usually dip about a can a day when I'm not hunting, but it's three dips tops when I'm on stand. I usually just spit in a bottle but I'll spit on the floor in a box stand on a pipeline.

Some of us just enjoy it. I won't die without it.

Im in a hunting club with a guy from ville platte who is the stinkiest, foulest, most disgusting man ive ever met. He consistently kills deer in different locations. He has single handedly made me feel as though the entire movement to cover you smell is bull. If the deer dont smell him, i guarantee you that they wont smell me.

People were hunting and killing deer for thousands of years before scent-a-way was invented. I try to minimize my stink and hunt the wind as much as possible.
