Way too cold but Mainline Brass Band warmed things up.

So few people...almost like a private party. Just caught K'naan...pretty powerful lyrics...reflection of his former life. Planning on The Revivalists, Toots and the Maytals and Anders Osborne...will probably skip Metallica!

Easily my favorite rapper right now.

Like yurin said, they're REALLY good live. I saw them in NOLA a few years ago and they impressed.

They just blasted out a 2 hour set. The crowd looked exhausted.

No Fuel or Whiskey in the Jar, though. If yer a fan of the "old stuff" you probably enjoyed it more than most.

The decibel battle between Metallica and Justice was not won by either side. Final thoughts: Anders Osborne w/ Johnny Sansone was a big winner as was K'naan. The combined efforts of The Revivalists and Soul Rebels had the crowd ramped up. Ingrid Lucia's line up of NO "nightingales" displayed some of the best LA has to offer (Marsha Lake...I think I have the name right...wow in many respects).

I had a friend who used to play with them. Thought they played really well, but unfortunately most of their songs sound pretty similar to me

i was pretty unimpressed with the enthusiasm of the crowd for metallica..i guess nola isn't really a city that is crazy about metal, but metallica put on a pretty damn good show all things considered

Agreed, but it was a mistake to schedule two acts that were known for super high-volume shows to play so close together at the same time. I imagine it was scheduled that way for crowd control but it sure did not work for me.

Follow-up question. What is up with Justice. I know I am an "old timer" by most standards, but two guys operating computers and mixing sampled cuts (while lighting and smoking cigaretts!), while certainly impressive work, did not measure up to my definition of "music."

not work for me

are you surprised? green day was expected to play up till a few weeks ago. most people aren't going to pay nearly $100 last minute to go see a band.

None of the other bands really appeal to Metallica fans so their aren't going to buy tickets gor this. Voodoo isn't really aimed at that crowd.

Dude... They were exhausted. A Metallica concert is draining if that's the ONLY thing you do that day. Also - I think the crowd was younger so they would've been better off playing some of the stuff off of Load/ReLoad. "Whiskey in the Jar" is an obvious choice for a NOLA crowd that they didn't play either.

I'm an old school metal head and thoroughly enjoyed Metallica's entire set. I couldn't have scripted it any better. If they played nothing after the ...And Justice For All album, I would be pleased. Most of the young hipsters in skinny jeans probably didn't know 90% of the songs. frick em!
