Does the size of the scrape equate to the size of the deer. I have a huge fresh scrape on property. Have a trail cam on it, havent got back to it yet.
Just curious.

I don't think there's any way to know for sure, but it makes me feel better to think it does.

I found one last year that was so big my rifle couldn't touch both ends of it anywhere.

Could be a "community" scrape. More than one buck using it. I have never been able to equate scrape size to buck size. I think rub size is a better indicator. IMO

^ THIS. All deer will use scrapes, it's not just bucks. They use it as a kind of sign post for communication.

The size of the tree of a rub or the length of the rub itself? There is a rub about 15 yards from the scrape. The tree is rubbed about 12-18 inches but the tree is a sapling about one inch in diameter.

and ive seen 1.5 year bucks hit calf size rubs and 4 yr. old bucks rubbing trees so skinny that i'd be scared to hold onto for a predawn dump, as well..

Ya just never know.......

I have heard both ways, that it does and it don't. Some people say that often there are like community scrapes that get reused every year by many bucks and that they get bigger. Others say bigger deer make bigger scrapes. I personally have no evidence to support either claim. I've seen all kinds of bucks work all kinds of scrapes. Deer piss me off

The way I've always heard it with rubs is that any buck will rub a small tree but only big bucks rub big trees, but that may not be a constant. Probably just one of those old man hunting lies

No

Scraped can be made by one deer or multiple. We have some "community" scrapes on our place that show up every year that are huge

Looking at the tracks in the scrape is more what I go by naturally if they are bigger I get a little more excited. I usually though don't pay scrapes no mind because like ole geauxt said I've seen all sizes at all sizes of scrapes.

I've always wondered about rubs too. It seems there is nothing stopping a 12-inch wide fork-horn from rubbing a 9 inch tree yet we assume bigger trees always mean bigger deer.

So you think bucks of all sizes are doing it? That's usually what I think. Some people see a big rub and automatically assume they have the world record lurking nearby.

For the most part I would say no.

I killed a 10 pt 2 yrs ago that had just freshened a scrape and that scrape was barely 2 ft in diameter.

Of course way back when I found a scrape the size of a car hood on our lease in Ga. edge ofapine thicket. At first I thought the other guy that was hunting the property was frickin with me, until I saw the rub just 20 yds away from it. Entire bush just mangled all to hell. Went back and checked the scrape again and found dirt thrown back onto leaves over 15 ft away from the scrape itself, God as my witness.

3 days later the other kid hunting the property killed him just before an afternoon stormfront got there. 17 pt that scored 158 and change and was @ 6.5 yrs old. They had just clearcut around an old swamp about not quite a mile away and we figured that was his core area and had since relocated since neither of us had seen him or any sign of a deer that size on the property.

So yes, if you find a REAL whopper of a scrape, good chance Mr. Big made it.
