Mett seems to have trouble with the touch pass and long balls. Throws that require a bit of loft to them. But when he fires it in he is most often on target. He has to be because our receivers are blanketed by everyone we play. I rarely see a wide open receiver. We blame the receivers because they get no separation and I'm sure there's some truth to that. I believe the main problem that has to do with the simplicity of our offensive scheme. That may be a combination of having to max protect, lack of creativity, whatever, but it is our Achilles heel.

All that to say don't blame it all on Mett. It's a tough situation to be put in whatever his talent level. When it's all said and done I think he's going to be a very good QB for the Tigers.

I know from past posts i have read that this post is too long for most tards attention span. So flame on.

TL; did read, wish I could agree, mediocre Oline (playing above their ability and experience) and mediocre QB1

I agree. It's not metts fault. We need to have better play calling and coaching

Sure was a beautiful deep ball to OBJ for a bunch of yards... oh wait that is right he dropped it.

Mett isn't perfect but his line/coaches/wr sure haven't been helping him out this season.

He had two deep passes go a few yards too deep on Saturday that could have been TDs if the wind was howling through that POS stadium.

Not to disagree with you on our play calling and QB/WR coaching, they suck for sure, but Mett does have his own share of faults. Remember the play action call during the 2nd quarter that had Nick Jacobs wide open? The timing of that call was spot on and genius (2nd down and 4), yet Mett just over threw his target for 2 yards...If he delivered that ball accurately, we would have had a 7-9 game already. My point is...Mett has a lot to work on himself and needs to somewhat get exposed for his mistakes, which is good for his long-term development.

Man, you hit the nail on the head. I have been screaming this. We run WAY too many pass plays out of a 2 tight/I-form. We end up with 2 receivers actually running routes. The play calling is awful. Our offense is extremely simple. Every single pass we throw is either to the sideline, a comeback, a quick slant, or a fly. There is absolutely no intermediate passing game.

Granted, Mett hasn't been perfect. But the playcalling has not enabled him to put up the stats that most Tiger fans were dreaming of before the season. I think if we ran shotgun with 4/5 wide most of the time, you'd see MUCH better stats from him. I also think that running out of a passing formation is much more beneficial than throwing out of a run formation, unless you have superior talent at the wideouts, which we do not.

I can't agree more with everything you said. With the current offensive line and our talent on WRs, we should run every play on the basis of a shotgun formation just like what Patriots did in the NFL. The creativity for passing design is quite limited with the I-formation unless you can keep the play action game going. As far as the running game goes, I think we should run more draw plays instead of power O in either the I or shotgun formation. We did that a lot last year and they were effective. I don't know why they stop doing that this year.
