Will a LSU Gen Bus degree suffice for an Accounting or Finance degree if I do Internal Audit?

ETA: if you are going to do IA, just go ahead and do Accounting. When you graduate, you will be able to find a job.

You will be fine if you are ok limiting yourself to internal audit/controls/consulting if you do the CIA program at LSU.

Accounting is more versatile, especially if you want to stay in a smaller market place (NOLA/BR). Internal audit/consulting gigs are much tougher to land unless there is an abundance of large, publicly traded companies where you want to be.

I thought I would want to do IA for my career. I finished the program at LSU, interned, got an offer, passed the CIA etc. Decided to go big 4 external audit and never looked back. Oh, and I eventually left big 4 external audit for industry and since have never, ever looked back.

Do Accounting or Finance. General Business will probably severely limit you when looking for internships/jobs in the CIA program.

My suggestion: Major in Finance, do the CIA program and take as many other accounting classes as you can while you are still in school. Try to get as close to CPA eligible as possible when you graduate. If you do that, you can always go back to night classes to finish up CPA eligibility and study for CPA.

I dont even know if they let people do Gen business anymore. I thought they made you pick something at least before your junior year.

I tell all of my friends that are going into business that it's a waste of time unless you get an Accounting or Finance degree...now obviously the "waste of time" part in a bit of exaggeration but generally speaking Accounting/Finance degrees go a lot further than the rest of the business majors in terms of finding a job out of school
