Looking off a defender....

Has Mett ever looked off a defender. To me he stares down who he is throwing to. Our next opponent will take advantage of this.

Agree.. sure would be nice to see him show a fake pump and look off a defender.

Haven't seen him look off a defender yet. Probably won't see it against Ala. either. He won't have enough time. Let's hope LSU devises an entirely different game plan offensively from what we have seen so far this season but I doubt it. Geaux Tigers!

he has at times looked off defenders....but from what i recall, it has usually been later in the game...so guess is it's not ssecond nature and he has to be reminded about it?...of course it is not as often as most would like

I am surprised by that as well. At the Spring Game he looked off receivers multiple times. With young QBs they sometimes decide where they are going to throw the ball before the snap and that is why you see the throws into coverage ie the South Carolina game.

you dont need to look off a defender when every pass you throw is outside the fricking hashmarks.

They are scared to throw over the middle is all I can think of. Bama DBs gonna be jumping those outs and slants from the get go.

I know for sure he's looked off defenders at least a few times because every time i turn to whoever's next to me and say "JJ never would've done that", trying to convince myself Mett is such an upgrade

How the hell are you supposed to look off a defender when there are only 2 fricking wide receivers running routes? YOU CAN'T!!!
It's not his fault the play calling is so shitty and we have absolutely NO creativity on offense.

And more to that, when a QB is throwing a 5 yd out, he has to make sure that the db is not squatting on the route, whether they are in man or zone. You dont have time to look off the safety nor is it necessary when the safety is in the middle of the field. You have to look at where you are going with the ball to make sure the receiver will have position if you throw it. If we ran anything over the middle, yes Mett would need to look off the safety. But our shitty play calling and creativity in the passing game deems that unnecessary.

Watch the game? He looks off quite a bit, but especially when the pass routes go past ten yards and there are more than 2 receivers.

Would you rather us go 5 wide and get the QB killed because the O-Line can't protect him ?

I would rather we run some routes with our wide receivers beside 5 and outs, 7 and outs, and curl routes. If we would run SOMETHING over the middle to get the linebackers moving, maybe every team we play wouldn't put 8-9 guys in the box and blitz every down.

Watch all the NFL qbs....they usually stare down their primary reciever also. The really good ones will look off a defender but it isn't the easiest thing to do. Most of the time a qb knows where he is throwing pre snap.

I'm not getting the criticism of the play calling from the A&M game. A&M stacked the box and we tried to exploit their corners by going over the top. For whatever reason we couldn't connect on those plays, either because of overthrows, drops, etc... But the playcalling itself was what many people have been clamoring for over the season.
If defenses are going to play our receivers man with no safety help, then we have to beat coverage and connect on the deep ball.

Earthworm, not disagreeing with the last part of your statement. I think it's right on point.
But my criticism is not necessarily of the play calling...but of the pass plays we choose to call over and over again.
Answer me this....when's the last time you saw any of our receivers or tight ends run a drag route, a post route, a post corner, a dig route???
Nothing appears to be in combination. There are natural holes that develop by running combo routes with 2 receivers.
With our speed, a drag route or two could be deadly. But no, we're going to continue lining up in the pro set I, keep our TE in to block, and run double hitches, slants, outs and 9 routes with an occasional sluggo.
That's high school shite.
