in LSU history. or should i say a lot of opinions both ways.
i've taken my shots at this dude, personally and player wise on this board. I figured i at least owed it to him for anyone else that could care a bit to come on here and tell what i saw.
went tailgating last weekend for the SC game. i had left for a while and came back to our place. my friend says look up to see who his sitting at the edge of the tent. Low and behold, JJ9.
his brother Ricky, his dad, and i guess his younger brother were all beside us.
friend of mine said my kid and his had taken a pic. with him, etc. Anyway i figured i'd watch this guy to see why he generated so much hate, etc.
Kids were coming and going, hanging on him, asking for pics and autographs, hitting him with questions. Not ONCE did he look them off, turn around/walk off, look at the cell, etc. everything was an honest face and response to kids, and all white ones if anyone wants to take that angle. this went on for some time, around 230 to 500. there's no way anyone on this board could have handled it any better.
i personally did not talk to him, just felt kind of awkward to have done so.
i'm not here to pump the dude up, i dont' know what happened at Shadys, or even what i always saw on the field as poor performance, or was that more of lack-of-player development by LSU.
but what i did see was a class act out of him that day. i don't know him personally, but i at least i do owe it to him for what he did that day.
lord knows i've bashed the guy for years.

JJ will always be a Tiger

Although JJ drove me nuts during the championship game (not more than Les though), he did did play a big part in beating Bama twice and might have beaten him three times had he not gotten hurt during the game at Bama in 09 when he was looking really good. I'll always give him his due credit for that. Those were two gigantic wins. The cards were stacked against him and LSU to do it twice last year with that Bama D.

Good to hear.
And I hope we never boo a Tiger player again.
I, too, criticized his play, but not him personally.

That's interesting to read, and I am surprised because Jefferson always looked so antagonistic when dealing with his teammates.
I guess things didn't work out with him in the CFL though. I remember reading he had beaten out Stephen Garcia for the back-up QB spot in Montreal.

I'd definitely pick up his tab if i saw him at a bar. Support all our tigers. They're only 18 - 23 year old kids.

I worked on the football team when JJ was there and he was a total dick and thought he was better than everyone else. thought he deserved shite to be given to him. Maybe being booed and not even sniffing an NFL roster has humbled him and if thats the case great. but IMO he was a total D

Was your experience with the team generally positive or were there a lot of guys who had similar attitudes?
One of my friends was a trainer for the football and basketball teams at Duke, and public perception of specific players was often very much in touch with reality.

Anybody who hates any LSU player doesn't deserve to call himself a fan.

that statement right there says a lot more about LSU fans than anything in your post does about how JJ9 interacts with the kids of many of the same people who did nothing but trash him. IMO, JJ9 gave LSU everything that he had and nobody wanted to win for LSU more than he did. seems to me much of the ignorant hate directed at CLM was transfered to JJ because Miles and staff lost trust in JL after the first bama game and when bama pounded us in the rematch the hate mongers, in the parlance of youtube....went viral. JJ and JL, warts and all, both directed LSU to a ton of victories and I thank them for their guts, their fortitude and their class in the face of a fanbase that never fully supported either of them. what a fricking shame.

Unlike regular folks like us. Players really understand what going on and simply put they don't give a shite what your opinion is, the more thin skinned will be affected but the majority could care less.
