Because his work with the wide receiver's has been terrible this year. The receivers can't get open, and when they do they drop the ball.

Mett gets a lot of criticism, and yes his pocket awareness isn't good at times.

Mett does hold onto the ball too long, but that's because the receivers can't get open.

Beckham and Landry were highly regarded coming out of high school, but it hasn't translated for Landry and Beckham has regressed since his freshman year. Russell Shepard was a project, but he has become non-existent since we've stepped up in competition. James Wright and Kadron Boone seem like solid possession types, but not a true no 1. Boone seems like the only one Mettenberger trusts at this point.

I don't think this group is the most talented group in the world, but you expect them to catch the football, and that's the coaches job to make sure they do. Henry's work with this group is just not cutting it based off what I've seen so far.

I have to agree with you. I wonder how much damage Billy Gonzalez did before he left?

Can't coach talent. Let's face reality and admit our receivers are average at best. Small and slow is not a good combination.we need to start using our rb's more out of the backfield against bama.

Do any of you watch the games? The receivers stepped it up big time during the last two games. How the hell can they catch a ball that is way overthrown, even without a defender on them. They've had like 3 maybe 4 drops in the last two games. Which is fairly average for every team.

WRs have stepped it up. Hell, everyone has stepped it up on offense but Mett.

This board has been singing this same song since DJ McCarthy was the WR coach. I guess our receivers are just naturally good at blocking. A lot of the inability to get open is due to the type of routes being run against specific defenses. Also LSU is lacking a tall go to reciever because they couldn't get one after mike Davis and Justin hunter bailed once DJ was fired along with not getting one the next 2 recruiting classes.

I seem to notice our WR's have a lot of trouble when the DB's get physical with them. I don't know if it is psychological, physical strength, or I am simply not watching the receivers closely. They seem to get flustered when a DB is physical. Even if the DB commits a foul that doesn't get flagged, our WR's shouldn't let it get in their heads.

Yet, we see the same personnel. Shep gets little to no touches. I hope Dural comes back healthy. They'd better work in brazil at WR. We need speed/explosiveness. Even if he is just a replacement for Shep in the slot. We truly need a full/open audition on offense for every position this spring. Regardless of class.

Well said.

As I see it Boone has started to separate himself as the most sure handed receiver (no numbers to back that up, just as I have watched over the weeks) - he was Metts go-to guy the first game or so, and then he made that amazing catch (albeit I think all receivers should make good catches, that is what they are there for) yesterday.

All the receives need to spend hours everyday for the next two weeks on the jugs machine! Turn up the speed and get to work boys!

I always find it funny when people want to blame the WR coach for drops. I'm not saying they can't help out to a degree but college WRs should be able to catch. Route running, technique, etc are things Id give more blame/credit to the coach for.

Its hard to get open when we run the same routes all game, that goes back to our predictable play calling. That being said, our WR's got decent seperation against A&M, if Mett hits them they are huge gains or TD's. Adam Henry is actually one of our best recruiters on staff, I am excited to see the talent he brings here over the years.

Like some earlier have said, our receivers not getting seperation have more to do with the routes stud drew up with his McDonald's French fries. I like Henry and think he's a good coach. Beckham is the one that has had the drops. The others haven't been Larry Fitzgerald but try haven't been as bad. I think Odell is having some problems with his head, and Jerry Rice would have trouble coaching him up right now.
