While our defense has been in overdrive, our offense has been in neutral or reverse during his tenure.

If one believes in pay for performance, Miles should be making less than Chavis.

Probably not but he's definitely smarter and more deserving.

So a DC should get paid more than a head coach? Has this ever happened anywhere before?

Miles gets some of the credit for the defense because he helps close the deal on some of these players. Remember that Chavis got FIRED from his last job. He is a great fit for LSU, and probably without a doubt 100% responsible for the success of this defense, as far as play calling, adjustments, getting the best playes on the field, etc. goes but if he wants to get paid Miles type money he is going to have to take a HC position at a larger school (probably not going to happen).

Now do I think Chavis should be the highest paid DC in college football? Hell yeah!! He saved us, and his defense is responsible for winning LSU games, on MULTIPLE occasions.

Personally, no. However, it is not unusual in the financial sector for the business heads to make more than the CEO because of the performance of their unit and overall contributions to the companies earnings.

Fairly sure of two things:

1. Miles should be making more than Chavis (remember, we had great defenses with Pellini, too)

2. You should be making minimum wage.

I love sundays mornings after a close win, the dumbasses are out in full force.

Do you have to wait until Sunday morning or after a cloe win to find them?

They are out IN FORCE daily

Chavis got "fired" from his last job because the only way UTenn would hire LK was if his daddy was the DC.
Chavis is a top notch DC, as evidenced by his long tenure in the toughest conference in college football.
He is hands down the best X's and O's coach on the staff.

This logic is extremely flawed. There is much more responsibility held by a head coach than a coordinator. If Chavis felt like he was up to the task with dealing with hiring/firing, athletes off the field, media, compliance, policies, overall recruiting, he would've been a head coach himself. You severely underestimate Miles' contributions to the football program and university.

Miles and the LSU starting QB are the two most blamed people for LSU's problems. This is not a new story. It started years ago.

I love Chavis.

But the poor guy is becomming a cause celebre among the downtrodden negas. It's kind of similar to how the back up quarterback is often the most popular player. I have a feeling the Chief would laugh in their faces if they said this stuff to him in person

It's good that they have someone to admire who actually is associated with LSU though.

I have not heard that Chavis was in any way unhappy with his salary or that Les makes more money than he does.

Some coaches find their nitch in the caoching profession as a 'position coach/coordinator' rather than 'Head Coach'.

Is it possible that Chavis just wants to coach a 'bunch' of blue-collar down in the trenches defensive studs?

Maybe it is worth the difference in a 'Head Coach' salary and an extrememly well paid defenive cordinator to just work with the defensive unit.

From watching Chavis' interviews and reading articles written about him, I can't really see him as a head coach. He is a genius defensive X and O's coach and developer of LB's but does not strike me as a person who wants to deal with all of the other aspects of a running a NC contending program. He is happy to be in full control of his most comfortable aspect of the game and is fine with making $1.1-1.3 million doing it.
