Excited to see LSU is playing at UGA next year. This will probably be my road trip. Anyone have thoughts on Athens and how it ranks in tailgating scene. I assuming LSU fans will be out in force since they wont be back for a long time with the 6-1-1 format.

UGA fans are the worst in the conference. And yes I've been to many games in Tuscaloosa and Gainesville.

Don't expect too much good-natured conversation.

Mine too I guess. I was already planning my trip to Columbia, but I guess that will have to wait.....

Thats what everyone said about Gainesville and that was my trip this year. Gainesville to me was just a college town with no charm or personality. Im hoping Athens is more like Knoxville.

bar scene is hands down the best in America. their tailgating takes place on what they call Noth Campus. its a quadlike area, off of Broad St (the street that seperates campus from downtown). its a hike to the stadium, but thats where the action is. after the game head right past there into downtown for the widest assortment of bars near any college campus

I'm doing a military PCS to Kings Bay, GA so I'll definitely be at that game next year.

Athens is AWESOME. Not nearly as intense of tailgating as it is at LSU, Bama, UF, etc. Its a more relaxed environment. The bar scene is great. Your in the foothills of the mountains. Very beautiful campus. Athens is always my favorite road trip.

Beautiful campus. I was surprised but no one is allowed to set up any tailgates until 8am the morning of the game. We got to campus at 6am and there wasn't a single person on campus. Cant set up tents or anything until 8am on game day.

Gainesville is a shithole.

Athens is the quintessential southern college town. Their fans can be assholes, but the environment is awesome.

Sanford Stadium is very cool, but for such a large venue, it's not as loud as you'd expect.

Me and some buds went back in 2004 , Satans last year , when LSU got their arse handed to them. We hung out at a place called the Bourbon Street Bar. It was mostly LSU fans. Jim Dunigans crew showed up there. It was a blast. Athens is a nice place.

shite I checked this AM for rooms in Athens.

Most are "sold out". Guess they block rooms a year ahead too .............................

North campus tailgating is a lot more strict now after UGA implemented new rules when it was trashed on game days. There's good tailgating all over though.

Downtown Athens is impossible not to have a good time. Just watch for the bike cops, they're dicks and are always watching for BS like jaywalking.

Bourbon Street bar was usually frat stars and freshmen when I was in school, fwiw.

I know a poster on TD had a huge tailgate in 2009 in a high school parking lot right down the road from downtown. I'm sure once the game gets closer, LSU fan tailgating plans will be announced.

Definitely walk around campus though. The campus and scenery ( ) were my favorite things about UGA.

UF tailgating is intense? Not even close. I've 4 times to the Swamp. Very mediocre tailgating. I've been for both day games and night games. The stadium itself is good but tailgating....meh.

They really are. They're worse if they're winning than if they're losing, if you can imagine that. Horrible fans.
