I knew we were a little young this year, but this was surprising.

Rabalais had this litle factoid in his article this morning.

"LSU has played 15 true freshmen this season, more than any other FBS team."

This undoubtedly is a one of the major reasons the team has struggled a bit out of the gate, and also might suggest that we will get better as many of the freshmen settle in. Also bodes well for next year, with so many young players getting a lot of experience.

Except for Vadal Alexander, the vast majority of those 15 have been on defense/special teams. I certainly wouldn't say the defense has "struggled out of the gate"

Do you load up on info throughout the week and then dump it all on us at one time?

it says played not started so you can add Jeremy Hill to that list aswell, who has been an energizer for the offense going forward

Good point....I know we're playing a lot of freshmen at LB and in the secondary, and relatively few on offense. But having so many freshmen in the line up (no matter what their position) has to affect team chemistry to a certain extent. I just find it interesting that we actually lead the FBS in the number of freshmen played.

Rabalais's article just came out this morning. I know there has been much discussion about the team's issues (youth being one of them), but the fact that we actually lead the FBS in the number of freshmen played seems noteworthy and adds a little perspective to the discussion.

how?

V. Alexander didn't start until after AU.....the rest of the OL had experience. Mills has been very good in the secondary and the freshmen LBs are outstanding.

Think about he true frosh playing legit time this year.

Alexander - RT
Hill - RB
Mills - CB
Alexander - LB
Debo - LB
Louis - LB
Ferguson - SNP

Some PT
Phillips - LB
Fiest - LB

Special Teams:
not sure, but I know neither of the kickers are adn the the return yardage against LSU on KO and Punts is stupid low.

stho381....someone else made the same point, and I agree. (Thanks for the list of freshmen who have played, by the way.) The only way this has impacted the offense has been the need to play freshmen on the O-line, due to all the injuries, etc. (Not only Alexander, but the redshirt freshman we've plugged into the right guard spot.)

If you throw in redshirt freshmen it is a lot more. Sadly what it also reflects is some of the veterans haven't come through like it was expected and also others that have been injured or not here for other reasons.

Actually - Ohio State has also played 15. TCU has played 16 as of this week.

LSU has played more true and redshirt freshmen than any other team with 28. TCU second with 27.
