Howdy Yall,
First let me start off by saying no, "Howdy" is not an Aggie thing. It's a Texas thing. Short for "How do you do?". Anyway, I graduated from A&M in 2011 (though class of 2009), worked for a year outside of College Station and moved here to the Baton Rouge area 5 weeks ago.

This weekend was my first weekend to really get to know BR and NO as my fiance flew in to visit. Other than the culture shock I experienced upon moving here (you have to admit, Louisiana culture is different from Texas culture, which is different from Mississippi culture, etc.), I've noticed that people in general are nice here. My fiance noticed the same thing.

We went to visit various parts of BR including downtown, LSU, and the Oschner area (she is a nurse) at O'Neal. Downtown is pretty neat. Seems to be pedestrian friendly though not a whole lot to do in terms of bars/restaurants. We drove through the LSU campus and I must say it is very nice. I love all the oak trees and it was nice being back on a "collegy" campus after over a year. We ate at Chimes right there at the edge of campus and that was a really neat place. We walked off our beers around campus a bit and checked out the stadium. It is a real nice stadium, bigger and nicer than Kyle Field (though Kyle will be redone soon, thankfully).

We also checked out New Orleans...Bourbon street as well as downtown (Walks Ons for dinner) and that was neat too. Weird, but neat. Nowhere else have I seen a busy street blocked off for a wedding procession complete with big brass band following behind.

Overall it's taken (and still taking) some getting used to but it's not too bad over here. Unfortunately my rental house is in a less-than-desirable place, but it's just temporary until I buy a house somewhere I like better.

I just wanted to share my thoughts and tell yall what I thought about your campus etc. I'll leave my defense of us "weird" Aggies to the other thread. I come here a lot to search for local information...machanics, places to live, etc. and it's been a great resource.

Didn't know grown men could use the word "neat" that much.

Thank you sir. I learned that a long time ago unfortunately. Tough guys on the internet can never be beat I guess.

Next time you head to New Orleans, don't eat at Walk Ons. Ask the Food and Drink Board for advice. You obviously needed it. Otherwise, welcome and I have to agree that you should consider dropping the "howdy" thing. I've never heard a single one of my many TX born and bred friends say that.

I grew up in Texas and not once have I said Howdy. It's extremely ghey and not "neat". You also fit the mold of every aggie I grew up with.
