A closer look at Texas A&M
Posted by nighttrain30 on 10/14/12 at 10:43 pm00
I couldn’t figure out why all the aggie fans are so confident their team will beat LSU so i did a little research and thought id share my findings. Lets start with A&M's "amazing" offense that’s about to face a relentless LSU defense that thrives in big games. On a closer look at A&M’s opponents you will notice that every team but Florida are terrible on defense with exception of maybe ole miss who is average at best. Their overall defensive rankings go as follows:
Ole miss- 41st
SMU- 73rd
Arkansas- 92nd
Louisiana tech – 119th
South Carolina St.- 63rd ranked defense in FCS
The only good defense A&M has played is Florida and in that game, they were worn out and their numbers were very pedestrian. JF played ok but he wasn’t able to take over the game and the offense around him was terrible. LSU's D is just too good to be beaten by one player.
Next we look at the A&M defense, its ranked 72nd overall and gave up almost 60 points to La Tech (yea i know they have a high caliber O but 615 yards and 57 points?!?!). case closed. Yea they get some injured players back but I doubt it will make a difference.
In all I believe this will be a classic LSU victory this weekend. The first half will be close but LSU’s depth and running game wins out in the end and LSU rolls in the second half. Plane and simple, LSU’s defense is just as good Florida’s (I think LSU’s D is better but my opinion is biased so ill call it a draw) and our offense showed signs of life this past weekend and looks to keep rolling against a defense half as good as the one we just played. And after great improvement against USCe (no fumbles and less penalties), I predict LSU shows even more improvement and finishes drives inside the redzone.
LSU-31
Texas A&M-17
Ole miss- 41st
SMU- 73rd

TL:DR but you answered your own question.
They're FANS. Are they supposed to just roll over & accept defeat because we have more talent? No they'll rationalize reasons why they think they can pull it out.

Most Ags I know are not expecting to win, especially after how pathetic our defense looked against LT last night.

We still need our A game on the road.

I'd be pretty surprised if they don't score at least 17

i agree, but i feel like this team (specifically the offense) is really coming around and this team is about start hitting on all cylinders.

They'll get at least 21
Their offense has had time to improve since UF.
Hopefully their d is still Swiss cheese next week.

Go back to the defensive numbers and remove Tech. If i recall, a&m was only alowing 12 points a game thru five games and was second to only Alabama in the sec. Against just the 3 sec teams they are allowing 18 points per game.
You guys are not giving tech any credit. They are still the #1 offense in the nation.

quote:You played and beat Ole Miss in a close game; let's translate that to Big 12 talk so it makes sense. You played and beat Iowa St in a close game. Does that make you profoundly excited, or just glad to get a W? Then there's Arkansas, who's starting to show signs of life now, but was completely demoralized and flat when you got them. Yippee.

And then... you really defend your team giving up 57 pts to La fricking Tech? Yikes.
You played a hard game against a Florida team that hadn't found themselves yet, and that's to your credit.
Don't start acting like Mizzou fans, not yet. You haven't hit the meaty part of the schedule.

Our execution was much better against USCe, but the play calling was still pretty much the same as what we've been seeing, with a few new wrinkles. As long as the offense continues to evolve, I think we'll be ok. There are still far too many conservative plays being called once we reach the red zone though. It's obvious that Miles doesn't trust Mett not to throw an interception and kill the drive.
TAMU's weakness on defense is their secondary. Unfortunately for us, the passing game is our weakness, so we probably won't be able to take advantage as much as we should.

guarantee they wouldn't score more than 24 against LSU. teams that look for a shootout cant hang in the dog fight. LSU would own the football against their putrid defense and their offense would never be able to find a rhythm against our fresh destructive defense.

I'm just worried about how well a bunch of bourbon will sit on my scrambled eggs and toast.
