run major league team. 7 NLCS since 2000 with no monster contracts, injuries and no name players that come out of the blue and deliver. And all without perhaps their best but definately one of their best players in history (Pujols) going to the Angels and a rookie manager. Hats off

Manager that has never managed at any level prior to this season either.

You make it sound like they're the A's. They had a top 10 payroll this year.

No Managerial experience, youngest manager in the majors, dude is learning on the job basically.

MLB better watch out, he's gonna be a good one.

Mark McGwire has done a great job coaching the bats up too.

The discipline they showed at the plate in the 9th inning was just sick.

Maybe a top ten payroll but until the playoffs I doubt anyone (unless you are a baseball junkie) could name more than one player on their team much like the Athletics. And they have done it 7 out of the last 12 years. Pretty impressive.

Holliday, Beltran, Carpenter, Molina and even Freese should be household names as a casual baseball fan.

The Cardinals are an amazing organization but they have had a more stars than anyone not named the Yankees:
Pujols
Edmonds
Carpenter
Rolen
Beltran
Molina
Walker
Renteria etc

Holiday has a pretty big contract. I think it was 7 years $120 million.

Pujols had a $100 million deal at one point.

Berkman & Beltran both get paid handsomely, though arent on long term deals.

Wainwright has a big deal.

Carp had a huge deal.

etc etc

I think Carp is 2 years $21 million and Wainwright I think was the same, though I think his contract may be up. Neither are huge numbers by today's figures.
