Will be looking to kill time tomorrow before my friends get off work. Would like to find a stereotypical NYC breakfast place (bagels and whatnot), some ethnic food (pretty much everywhere around here, just looking for suggestions if possible), then a bar or a cafe preferably with outdoor seating (wouldn't be mad if they had food, looking to get fat) to kill the remainder of the afternoon. I'm basically next to the Empire State Building, for reference. Appreciate any suggestions.

It's about as boring area as you will find in Manhattan.

I just take what I'm given boss, I'll take a cab, not hurting for funds.

You don't even really need to do that. If you're looking to find something to eat and have a few drinks during the day, go about 4 subway stops to the East Village (or if it's a nice day, you can even walk there) and just take it in. Lots of good options around there.

Murray Hill sucks. I got stuck staying there one time. It's like a big retirement home. It's convenient location-wise to a lot of other areas that don't, though and I guess not an awful place to rest your head for the evening.

I'll probably just walk around. There seems to be a place a block or two away called rattle and hum that has bulldog-like beer selection and some food. Will probably make that my afternoon haunt.

I live in the area. Tons of indian places...called "Curry Hill." Some decent dive bars around. Really, you want to go to East Village.

Came here to post exactly this. It's a damn fine establishment. I don't make a trip to NYC without paying a visit to Rattle N Hum. It's the best place in that area for sure. There's also a Gingerman nearby which is decent and a place called Cask Bar + Kitchen on 33rd @ 3rd that was pretty cool the one time I went for lunch.

Haandi is good if you're looking for ethnic food. It's Pakistani/Indian. When you go you'll probably be the only north American in there. Second the call on Cask, try the scallops.

Every heard of a place called Penelope (breakfast)? Think I might go there, walk around, go to a place called Tiffin Wallah, then make my way to Rattle n Hum after. Friend gets off at like 4 I think so won't have a terrible amount of time to kill but unfortunately have a good bit of shite to read.
