I messed up and clicked on a link registering for a subscription to a science magazine for a class I'm taking and I don't think that it's what I thought it was. I've never been scammed but I don't feel right about this.

So, I did a little research and it is a scam. So now they have my money or at least my debit card number. Is there any way I could cancel the order?

Remember, this is a debit card, not a credit card. I believe they are different when it comes to this stuff, correct?

If I cancel the debit card and get a new one will that fix this?

cancel credit card is the first thing you should do. have you done that already?

second, contact your cc company and explain so they can note on your account the transaction(s) that are about to go through.

third, don't click things on the internet!

No, I haven't done that yet, and it was a debit card, and I planned on doing that first thing in the morning. Also, what if I split the account with my dad? I believe the account is in his name but my name is on the card, I don't feel like him bitching at me.

Contact the bank ASAP and explain what happened, ask them to change account numbers.

His name is on the line too and he deserves to know. He will bitch at you, deal with it. He will probably bitch at you less if you get proactive and have the bank change the account immediately.

If they only have your debit card number, that is all you need to cancel. Chances are they already ran the transaction though. You will have to do a claim with your bank. If you have a good bank, it will be an easy process. Chase had my money back in 30 min

By "split the account with your dad", do you mean it is a joint account with him but you're the only one using it? If so he's most likely fine, but you still should tell him.

Go to or call your bank immediately this AM. You need to cancel the debit card ASAP and they may still cover whatever you authorized.

Yeah I'm the only one using it. He uses a different bank than me.

The whole thing seems a bit fishy to me...

Listen, its perfectly normal for guys to have desires.

So you bought porn online and didnt end the trial subscription before you were billed, its really no big deal.

Your old man will understand.

Nope, and apparently my attempt at humor pretty much derailed the thread. My bad...
