Decent cheap rifle

If the barrel is in good shape and the numbers all match they can be pretty accurate rifles out past 100 yards with open sites. Mine is accurate and the 7.62x54r with put a hurt on just about anything in North America. And it cost a 100.00 can't beat that.

It was a sniper rifle after all.

Get you an aftermarket stock of some kind. For whatever reason, these things kick HARD and you need a butt plate that isn't made of angle iron.

I used it during the war. I liked it for the most part but I wished had an AR instead.

Mint condition doesn't necessarily mean anything. It depends upon what factory it was made in, and when.
If the receiver is octagoned rather than rounded, then it was made in the Tulia factory...that's top shelf. A Tulia rifle made during peace time is the best.
Rounded receivers can range from pretty darn good to outright rotten (especially the WW2 products...they were slapped together).
I have 3 Mosins, each from a different factory. They do not kick that much. My 10 year old fires one fine.

Not so fast...
Watch the first 40ish seconds of this video.

They are reliable, rugged, robust rifles, but I have to agree with Mr. James Yeager here. Your old Rem 700 or Win 70 deer rifle will outshoot it all day as far as accuracy goes.

Owning 3 Mosins, I agree with the above for the most part. However, my 1898 Tulia is pretty darn good...though still not on par with a Rem 700 or Win70.
The big thing is that the ammo is cheap, and it's very good training (and hunting) for the kids out to 100 yds with iron sights. Could accurately reach out much further with a scope, but I hate to damage historical pieces like that.

Is an insufferable douchebag.
The Rem 700 is far better than the Nagant for sniping, but it still leaves a lot on the table.

CoastieGM, I completely agree. The thing is a great trainer, it's an accurate battle rifle, and it is cheap as shite to shoot. That's what's nice about it - cheap; everything.
And ColdPizza, you're also right. He's pretty douchey, but I agree him on some things, although he's not a big 1911 fan. I know he made the video "1911s suck" but if you watch it, there is some context. He said you can't just put together a 1911 with a bunch of different pieces and expect it to be as reliable as something like a Glock (as much as I hate them). He says they must be fitted to work well, and he's right to some degree. Although I've seen some RIA 1911s run all day without a hitch.
